Everyone was sympathetic to Johnny and thought Amber was lying. Men and women alike.

To me, It shows how we are all socialized to be more sympathetic to protecting men’s feelings and dignity than women’s. They both behaved badly but she is being blamed for everything in the toxic relationship. He was twice her age when they met, consumed mind boggling amounts of alcohol and drugs for decades, and is not taking any responsibility for his part in the mess. He had other ways of redressing his sense of being wronged than dragging them both through a public trial.

I am arguing with my teenage daughter trying to get her to see how unfair it is to blame everything on Amber. DD and her friends think Amber is to blame for ruining his illustrious career while I believe he did that in his own. Amber’s career and reputation has been savaged as well. DD tells me that the internet is siding with Johnny.

The world wants a villain (preferably female), while shared culpability, pesky details and nuance just get get in the way of one sided story telling.

I disagree. We are only now hearing Depp’s side of things while Amber’s take has been out there for over 5 years. This is the first time people really got the opportunity to compare what went on in that relationship from both Amber and Jonny’s perspective.

They’re both nuts. No one heard Depp’s side up until now.

What are you talking about Twitter has been pushing Depp's side for months. I agree with the other PP that its revolting people are acting like he's an innocent. AT BEST he is a drunken drug addict who left the mother of his children to date a hot crazy chick in her 20s and engaged in a mutually abusive relationship with her. That is the BEST possible interpretation of his behavior.

Only the red pillers are supporting him.

Who knew there were so many female red pillers People support him because he's open about his lifestyle and addictions, he seems genuine. People don't support Amber because she presents herself as a morally superior victim, who was calculated enough to escalate arguments and put her camera and audio on.

Most women support Amber, only frustrated men support him. And woman red pillar is an oxymoron -we don't fantasize and plan regulation that would make rape legal on our property, which is a fundamental view of the red pillers. We're not desperate and frustrated if we don't have sex and we don't think we're entitled to sex just because we demand it.

I don’t think most women support Amber.

I support Amber and I believe her. I don’t think she’s perfect - far from it. And I don’t think she’s the kind of person I’d want a relationship with. But that can be true AND she can be a victim … and I believe that she was.

I'm a woman and I don't support Amber nor do I support Johnny. They were both verbally abusive to each other, did drugs together and separately, and were all around a bad combination. I don't think she is the victim she claims to be. It would have been better for both if they had just divorced quietly.

Same here. They are two toxic people who were very toxic together. Both were abusive. Both are guilty. There's no winner in this scenario.

Legally though, if both were abusive, she wins.

Can you really claim to be the victim if you've done the same exact thing to your supposed abuser?

Yes you can, especially when you're talking about being in a cycle of domestic violence and not trying to win any legal argument, which is what she was doing in the op ed. Many abusers are also/were also abused. Being a victim of abuse makes you statistically more likely to abuse in fact. Isn't this your all's defense of him? That he abused in response to abuse and therefore he is the primary victim?

She has no moral high ground here is my point. He might lose this case (likely) because of the legal standard that he is probably not going to meet, but it doesn't mean that she was a victim any more than he was. I don't view all women who cry DM as credible. Facts still matter.

Yeah, facts matter, as you will find if you sue someone for defamation -- you will need to prove that they lied in order to win.

So far nothing that was played makes her look like the victim she claims to be.

How can anyone actually follow this crapshow of a trial. They are both messed up and the judge needs to tell them both to eff off.

He is suing her for something she did not do by the legal standard. She does not require moral high ground to win. She did not sue him to prove he was worse than her. I think they are both victims of domestic assault, both prior to and during their relationship.

For all the prior complaints about the proliferation of pro-Depp commentary on the internet, this board certainly seems to have a lot of anti-Depp/pro-Amber posters offering pro-Amber spin to everything that happens...

Any comment that isn't dripping with sympathy for Depp is labeled a pro Amber spin.

He has nothing, he lost a defamation suit in the UK. It is much easier to win defamation suits there. It is extremely hard to win them here, especially against public figures. There is almost no chance he prevails.

Nice use of the passive voice. Who exactly is doing the labelling? If you mean me, that's incorrect, as this is the first comment of the sort that I've made. If you mean some imaginary pro-Depp horde that you envision taking over this thread, that sounds about right.

And please keep making the same point about your thoughts on the relative difficulty of winning a defamation suit in different countries. I'm worried that someone will miss it if it isn't on every single page

If you're going to call out someone for using passive voice, you should know what passive voice is.

Agree. I don’t like either Depp or Heard. I’ve dealt with someone who had borderline personality disorder. It’s awful. I really cannot deal with that disorder. I’m too logical and it’s too much.

Pretty, sure... but such an obvious grifter con artist.

Why does she suddenly look like that chick who convinced her boyfriend to kill himself?

I hope she’s fired by Marvel or whoever produces Aquaman. If a man had been recorded saying the things she’s said, they’d be gone by now.

Agree she should be. But after the 2020 trial they came out publicly saying they wouldn’t fire her regardless of the public’s call for it.

Yes, They both need help and I wish they would settle this circus of he said/ she said horrible things out of court. There are no winners apart from the lawyers getting big pay checks and high profile clients.

I’m kind of glad all this is airing out in court. I used to be jaded and disappointed by Johnny Depo when he was fired and had this domestics issue. Now I just feel sad for him. And she does not have clean hands in any of this.
