Might be a good idea to let hostages go so you can save your own people. Unless that isn't your goal.

So you are killing your own hostages to save them?

Doesn't have to be that way. Water, food, cleanliness in exchange for hostages. Hamas cares about their own people right? I mean all of this was for the rights of the Palestinian people, right? They have the chance to negotiate clean water, sanitation, and all sorts of great things for their people. I'm sure they are at the negotiating table right now doing so, right?

They'd rather continue launching rockets. They are uninterested in helping their people. They don't care if they die.

Hamas does not care. They are a terrorist organization. They benefit from increased Palestinian suffering.

Israel does not care either but it is in their long term interest to not make things worse. They lose from increased Palestinian suffering.

That may not be fair for Israel but it's the unfortunate reality.

How is it possible that Hamas built so much infrastructure under UN observer and aid worker noses? It really makes me question their role. I know aid needs to get to Palestinians, and yes, I think it should be conditional. If the aid money is going to buy arms, it's sort of pointless anyway.

It seems you have a high tolerance for Israel's wartime depravity because the last I checked, Israel was still bombing Gaza.

Israel declared war. So war it is.

Uhhhwhat? Did you forget the part about how this started, when Hamas, the group that governs Gaza, declared war on Israel?

Did you forget the 13,000 Palestinians Israel killed before the latest Hamas attack? Do those people not count? It's like pro-Israel people have collective amnesia when it comes to dead Palestinians. The Hamas massacre wasn't some random attack, there is a history between the two sides.

Hamas is truly evil to do this to its people. The PLO was the predecessor of Hamas that put their people in this horrendous position. Terrorism is not the way to get what you want.

Israel has been terrorizing Palestinians for decades. You reap what you sow.

This is terrible. I hope Hamas releases the hostages and starts helping their people.

Hamas = ISIS.

Hamas is a designated terrorist organization, not a government.

They do not help anyone, not even the Palestinians.

Hamas is literally trapping Palestinian people in Northern Gaza; holding them back at gunpoint, for use as human shields.

Hamas is the enemy of the Palestinian people.

Israel, Hamas and the US are the enemies of Palestinians.

Same with Israel.

I’m sorry — equating the statistics from Israel (a democracy) with those provided by Hamas (a terrorist organization) is not the same. Are you suggesting Israel is exaggerating the 1,300 deaths caused by Hamas terrorists?

Hamas is not the Palestinian people. Why do people keep identifying Hamas with all who live on Gaza? Yes they are there, yes they are Arab/Palestinian. No they are not 100% of the population living on Gaza and you can condemn Hamas without suggesting all Palestinians are barbarians. Why is this such a problem for Jewish people? I mean I condemn the Hamas attacks. I do not support Israel's right to kill everyone on Gaza which is essentially what they are doing. Allies of Israel claim it's not but look at what's happening. It sure is. You are killing everyone there which amounts to killing all Palestinians, Hamas or not. It is every bit as tragic as Hamas killing innocents because Israel is knowingly killing innocents as well. You just can't say well we want to kill Hamas so it makes killing innocent people OK. It's not. It's never OK. EVER. To do it accidentally or because there's no way around it is different than simply dropping bombs to wipe out as many as you can at once. You really think this is about Hamas? It's about wiping the Palestinian people off the face of the earth. It's sick. As sick as Hamas.

Pages ago I asked why people who distinguish between Hamas and Palestinians are attacked as siding with evil and anti Israel. No one answered. Is anyone else bothered by the lack of nuance so many people have about this? Most issues are not black and white and this cluster of history, war, terror, and suffering seems even more complex than most. I’m really concerned about how popular it seems to need to pick a side here and ignore the nuance of a complicated history.

Your point seems to be that Israel defending itself is sick.

Israel declares itself a democracy, yet has a documented history of committing war crimes and terrorism against Palestinian civilians. They simply have credibility because the United States supports whatever they want to do. Hamas could easily declare themselves a legitimate republic if they had a powerful benefactor. The IDF and Hamas are not so different when it comes to terrorism.

I believe that Israeli civilians were murdered by Hamas last week. I also believe that thousands more Palestinian civilians AND journalists were murdered by Israel since then. Israel is making sure there are no reputable journalists left alive to report on the carnage. Israel targeted the headquarters of the AP abd AJ for missile attacks. BBC journalists in a press van have been murdered with precision missiles.

The point is that war crimes are sick, even when Israel is the perpetrator.
