I am thinking McCarthy will cave at the last minute and work with dems to get CR. Although he might lose his speakership in the process. But what other option does he have? Shutdown the entire federal government so he keeps his job? What is more important?

I don’t trust McCarthy to care more about keeping the federal government open than keeping the speakership. I hope I’m wrong. He’s awful, but there are likely far, far worse Rs to serve in that role.

I don’t trust McCarthy to care more about keeping the federal government open than keeping the speakership. I hope I’m wrong. He’s awful, but there are likely far, far worse Rs to serve in that role.

Right - that’s part of it. But in that case, maybe the moderate Dems who would collaborate on a CR would also help keep him in power.

Right - that’s part of it. But in that case, maybe the moderate Dems who would collaborate on a CR would also help keep him in power.

They get whoever McCarthy gives them because he gets to designate the acting speaker until someone else gets a majority, which may be never.

Reuters posted earlier that McCarthy is going along with this Freedom Caucus nonsense that won’t go anywhere. There’s still a chance that the House may amend that FAA spending bill at the 11th hour to include a CR, but all 100
senators have to agree to that before it can happen.
