NL player making a top MD club? I must’ve missed her.

Trying out.

There are plenty of DMV girls good enough to make a top MD club, including the NL middie. Anyone suggesting otherwise is not watching these teams play regularly. The MD teams are deep, but they are not so deep that they would not take a good, talented player from NL, Pride, Stars, etc. But is the juice worth the squeeze? Pride, for example, plays in the same tournaments against the same teams as Hero's. Is the status of playing for a top team worth the effort involved in getting to practice multiple times per week? If your goal is to play for a MD team in high school, then it's probably worth setting up shop as early as possible. But if you are a DMV girl who really wants to play for Capital, why bother with a MD team for a year? I don't get it.

This is a sensible post. Agree with all the key points, and with the conclusion for Pride and Stars players who want to play Capital. I have one amendment: Even if you want to play for Capital in 9th grade, a top player at NL should consider a switch to Pride or Stars, or even a Baltimore team if they live close enough to make the commute. The NL 2028s had a rough NGLL season, and don't even appear to be playing in tournaments. A top NL player would get better development, and play more tourneys (Pride plays in top brackets) on one of the better DMV teams.

I am parent of an older player and my advice is to get into the capital pipeline in middle school. For my daughter’s year, that meant attending SSSAS or playing for stars and/or pride (though not everyone made it from these teams). Do the clinics and workout at HB. It didn’t seem like they were taking anyone who wasn’t on their radar, fwiw.

Most people expect the 2027 to be different bc the BLC team is strong so maybe a parent from that year can answer once tryout results are posted. I don’t think anyone made it from BLC the year my daughter tried out but imagine it could be different.

Who would want to be on a team with a psycho dad screaming all the time? That really has been a black eye for the Stars program. Amazing the damage one a-hole can do.

Just keep all those Stars 38’s coming to Battlefield next year please.

And they play the #1 team in Coppermine.

There’s challenging yourself and then there is setting your kids up for failure.

Big question is what does Capital do about it? Take control or ignore it?

No kidding; it's the main reason we didn't consider the Stars program for our '28 DD. That, and the lower brackets at tourneys a close second.

So like 4 years ago when you first joined a travel team, you said to yourself "I don't want to be on a team with this one individual girl's dad who I don't even know, and I want my third grader playing in the top bracket so NO STARS FOR YOU!"

Or did you follow the other Great Falls parents to Pride so you could improve your lax parent social status?

So snarky. No coffee yet this morning? A little hungover from a fireworks celebration?

Nope, was referencing considering switching clubs, not the original decision. If you follow this thread, that's been a quarterly focus. The tournament brackets issue was clear with the older class years when we tried out though.

What's with the Great Fall's nonsense? Don't live there, nor do most of the Pride 2028 families, but the ones who do are great people. Sounds like jealousy.

My status is not based on my DD's club, although I have seen that phenomenon with other clubs. I do enjoy watching her compete against the best, though.

This is a very interesting attack on Great Falls parents seemingly out of nowhere.
