Thanks for sharing. That was painful to watch.

this is the current rule for figure skating: Figure skating also requires senior competitors to have turned 15 by July 1, prior to the start of the season. This means that any skaters competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics turned 15 before July 1, 2021.

the ioc itself has no rule

Meltdown is the exact right word for this. Yikes!

Totally agree with this.

+1!

That poor girl...she looks so young...and clearly did not want anything to do with her blonde coach.

I felt so disturbed by the whole thing I went on YouTube and watched Yuna Kim’s 2010 gold medal performance to cleanse my brain.

I really hope she doesn't do anything drastic upon return home. If she's having a meltdown in public than I'm fearful to think what her mental status will be behind closed doors. It's not like Russia is known for compassion or apologies or (therapists on site)for one of their own.

She's 15 and under a tremendous amount of pressure. She probably has been getting a lot hatred spewed at her by everyone - fellow skaters and adults alike - for the past few days and it was too much. I feel bad for her. I know how Russia works, this wasn't choice she made, it was something that was done to her.

It was nice how happy the Japanese skater was with her bronze medal - a needed change of pace from the Russian meltdown(s).

She meant you, the coach, KNEW that even if I land five quads, I wouldn't take gold, they wouldn't give it to me, not with what the other girls have shown. Eteri must have told her if you land this, you have a real shot at winning.

Maybe she meant you all knew it was too tough and she hadn’t done it well or consistently well. Set her up. Do this and they cannot deny you no matter what drugs.

I think she went out there with the intention to win and once she had that first stumble she threw in the towel. I don’t think she was told to lose, but mentally how can you go out there and skate knowing your win would prevent others from having their medals? Just a Terri me circumstance to be put under. Feel awful for her and the way she was treated by those abusive coaches (the guy was practically laughing as she was sobbing and they were talking over her as she was bent over sobbing into her hands). I hope she can recover from this and bounce back in 4 yrs and come back and compete again.

The poor gold medalist. She looked so sad.

That had to be one of the saddest things I've ever seen in sports. Not to have your coach or your teammates their to congratulate you?!? awful all of it. and the silver medalist cracked probably because she had been told to land all 5 of those quads and the gold would be hers and just look at how she fell apart after that. yes it was poor sportsmanship, but these girls have obviously been mentally and emotionally abused. She just couldn't take it.

In this case, I have to say I side with Eteri. She was absolutely correct: Trusova only had a shot at a medal, any color medal, if she nailed all her tech content. Without jumps, she is uninteresting. So if that's the mantra Eteri used to rev up Trusova's competitive mettle, she was absolutely correct. And honestly the girl ought to be grateful for her silver. It's a bit much to have her as a gold medalist in the presence of relatively well rounded Scherbakova.

Eteri is sick. She has her skaters starving. They get injured. She tosses them aside.

No, the poor child just self-destructed. I do hope she stays in the sport because she is truly a once-in-a-century skating talent.

If you watched her skate, she was just flustered all the way through, on a range of elements. It wasn't like she just took a couple of discrete falls and otherwise did fine.

We wondered if Russia drugged her so that she'd lose.

They poison people and give their athletes drugs, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
