Looks like a new Gaza war has started

Anonymous
The UN is again pleading for aid agencies to gain access to Gaza, and warning of possible war crimes.

Ravina Shamdasani, spokeswoman for the UN high commissioner for human rights, says the organisation is "concerned" that the Israeli military's demand that Palestinians move from northern Gaza to the south could amount to the "forcible transfer of civilians - in breach of international law".

If a country is believed to have committed a war crime during conflict, the case can be looked at by the International Criminal Court (ICC) - the Palestinians are members, but Israel is not.

In a statement, Shamdasani adds that attacks on civilians - while attempting to flee the necessary parts of Gaza - must be investigated independently.

She also appeals for the "immediate and unconditional" release of all Israeli hostages, with the latest Israeli reports indicating around 199 are being held.

I remember now, the joining of ICC. Israel opposed it, now we know why

It won’t change anything.

Hamas overachieved on their attack. No doubt.

Israel is in a no win situation of “kill them all” for hamas; when they absolutely could at the expense of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Call what you will; but Israel will not do what they want. They will kill many Hamas members; reset for a few years and repeat.

This war ends nothing. Your passion changes nothing.

This is dark, but probably correct. It would take both sides compromising, and that just doesn't seem in the cards. Israel would have to abandon the settlements and agree to a Palestinian state. The Palestinians would have to give up the land that's Israel once and for all. Can anybody see both of these compromises happening?

They have to. It's the only way out of this never ended situation.

Ten billion dollars.

Did you have a service contract with the State of Israel?

The money is going to stop sometime, that is a fact. We do not need Israel to win this senseless battle.
There is no way for this siege to continue with the world watching.
Thanks to diplomatic efforts, Bibi has had to delay ground combat.

Escalation with other countries involved will cause a spike in price of oil and lead to a long depression in financial markets
US cannot finance this suicide

You are so naive it’s unbelievable. The money is only going to increase by 100 folds. As a young Joe Biden once said “Israel is the biggest, best US aircraft carrier in the world, and it’s unsinkable. The $3B is the best money the US spends”. The US is trying to buy time and cover for Israel as the whole region is on edge. A calmer, more organized genocide and land theft.

Yikes. All that brownnosing, and Netanyahu still talks to him like a parent scolding a toddler. Biden has a hair trigger temper so I knew he was going to commit US troops which is probably not what Israel was expecting but it does help them significantly . We get to do the dirty work of a ground invasion and now we potentially get more hostages and casualties on the ground.

Perfect.

This is true. So many here and in the media are so quick to dismiss information coming from IDF, but willingly accept anything coming out of the Hamas controlled media.

I don't believe the numbers coming out of Israel either. 🤷

We know. 1400 people were not slaughtered on 10/7. Right? And there are not 199 hostages.

How is it possible that Hamas built so much infrastructure under UN observer and aid worker noses? It really makes me question their role. I know aid needs to get to Palestinians, and yes, I think it should be conditional. If the aid money is going to buy arms, it's sort of pointless anyway.

It seems you have a high tolerance for Israel's wartime depravity because the last I checked, Israel was still bombing Gaza.

At least one journalist is covering this.

A mother and daughter from the suburbs of Chicago were taken hostage by Hamas during their trip to Israel to celebrate a Jewish holiday season and a birthday party, according to their rabbi.

Judith Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter, Natalie Raanan, traveled to Nahal Oz in Israel, about a mile from the Gaza border, to celebrate a relative's 85th birthday and Simchat Torah.

"It has been confirmed to the family that both Judith and Natalie are alive and are hostages in Gaza," Rabbi Meir Hecht of Evanston, Illinois, told Fox News Digital. "The Israeli government and the State Department confirmed that information with the family."

I am glad they are alive. Is there a historical precedent for taking hostages in this part of the world? From Iran on, the hostage taking of civilians is constant. Or is it just part of the terrorist mindset-what you do when you don't want to fight actual armies? Pick on the defenseless?

Maybe if our foreign policy wasn’t so imbalanced they wouldn’t need to take hostages . People take hostages when they want leverage in a negotiation

People take civilian hostages when they are amoral.

But of course I understand what you are saying. They did it because, waaah, they didn't have another way. So since Hamas took the hostages what would they "want" in a negotiation? Ludicrous stuff like domination of "Planet Earth, and to break things? Nothing constructive or realistic that would actually benefit Palestinians and regional peace. Ya know? It's hard to take the idea of Hamas "negotiating" at all seriously.

And this why Hamas was able to do so much damage to Israel - underestimating the abilities of your enemies is a sure sign arrogance - now look where that landed Israel...

Oh please. They take hostages because they are psychopaths.

Nope. Throughout history, people take live hostages as a desperate way to get powers that be to either pay them or listen to them .

It’s not psychopath behavior. It’s actually the most accepted form of warfare because it allows for negotiation and victims are alive throughout .

Keep acting shocked or surprised as to to why Hamas is doing it. It’s because they want leverage. What can one do? Bomb them to smithereens and kill the hostages as well. Nope.

That’s the point . They want to keep hostages alive and release them in exchange for something

Hams doesn't seem desperate. They have more money than God, and patiently stockpiled and planned this. They take hostages because they want to. Abbas isn't holding hostages. It speaks incredibly well of the West Bank to have condemned all of this. They are the light and the future for Palestinians. Not Hamas. I understand why they did it, but understanding their twisted motives doesn't justify them. Pretty much the entire world views this the same.

Except Hamas really misplayed this. Their savagery and clear intention to existentially destroy Israel has gone beyond negotiating for hostages. My heart bleeds for the hostages, but Hamas made this a fight to the death. Israel will do everything to retrieve these hostages., but they are not going to make great concessions to Hamas this time. I dont see that happening, do you? The Gilat situation is kind of "fooled you once". Just don't see it happening ever again.

Everything to retrieve the hostages including bombing the hostages? Make it make sense.

It’s almost like Hamas turned it into a weaponized place. That point gets overlooked by far too many who are, I guess, rooting for Israel’s extirmination.

Yes, the extreme bias against it.

What is the bias against the ICC? This is an offshoot from the Nuremberg trials, so what is the extreme bias?
