No big wall.
Walls. Reinforced in some areas. Everify. Re-planning the system. But NO W A L L. It’s useless and expensive for something that is, again, useless. I challenge anyone to take me down on these points. The point has been made several times above too. |
Do you live in a border state? If you don't, then you don't have to deal with the brunt of illegal immigration. So why are you so upset about it? |
According to the map below from https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2053168016645830, border states like California and Arizona have the lowest levels of anti-immigrant sentiment. The highest are Arkansas, Utah, and Kentucky. I'm surprised by Ut, but Arkansas and Kentucky are very poor states reliant of federal monies.

b/c - like many other liberal elites - it's easier to judge from behind the screen How many liberal elites send their kids to their local public school? It's "wonderful" to be in a diverse community, eh? But the schools are never a "good match" for the kids. |
I love these studies. (Yours is inaccessible, by the way.) What factors ensured that these questions contained no bias? Was SES of participants addressed? access to technology in order to complete the survey (Or were hard copies available? or perhaps phone interviews? which languages?) If I'm "untouched by the untouchables," diversity is great! Look at Hollywood! VERY liberal, right? but with kids in private schools, living in gated settings, staying w/in a specific social circle I don't believe any of these studies. For every one person who thinks our country is La La Land, there are five more who quietly keep their beliefs to themselves. I scream BS. |
You just supported by point. So I don't feel any need to explain my response. back at you!

To those saying a wall will not work:
How will technology prevent people from coming in? Sure, it will identify them, but once they cross the border and are apprehended, the rules change. If they bring a child, the rules change dramatically. If they ask for asylum, the rules change dramatically. Once apprehended, they eventually get "catch and release" and essentially get a free ticket to the US--as long as they do not get arrested, and, even then, if they are in a sanctuary zone, they get to stay. Either change the laws to where they can be sent back once apprehended--even with a child--or build the wall. If you read the WAPO article today, you would know that smugglers are charging less if they bring a kid. The word is spreading in the poorest, remote villages. This is unsustainable and helping no one. |
| Can't y'all just call Cliven Bundy and his boys to defend the border? It'd be a hell of a lot cheaper he'd probably do it for some chewing tobacco and a pair of clean socks. |
another ignorant response I won't assume you're a liberal, however, as I know lines can oftentimes be blurry. Ignorant is ignorant. And while you may THINK you're being funny, you just look like a f-ing moron. If you want to argue, use some research. If not, find a crowd of buffoons who enjoy your humor and take your show on the road. |

Well, that money can now be sent to Mexico, as they will most likely need it. The US gave Honduras $181m last year - not in liquid assets (to prevent theft) but in the form of training and resources. Clearly, this help hasn't done any good, as the poorest of the poor are trying to leave. So we either readjust our priorities and use the support for the poorest in those countries, or we cut the aid and use it for our own poor. I prefer the latter. https://www.gazettextra.com/news/nation_world/another-bigger-migrant-caravan-is-set-to-leave-from-honduras/article_12ec7e25-5e2f-5151-b35d-f05f4293d825.html Another, bigger migrant caravan is set to leave from Honduras next month

You might remember there was a big nationwide poll on November 6. The border states of California and New Mexico overwhelmingly elected Democrats. In the border states of Arizona and Texas, the former elected a Democratic Senator for the first time in 30 years and the latter came closer to doing so than at any time since the 1980s, and Democrats made historic gains up and down the ballot. |
Short sighted trumpian logic with no concept of American soft power or Pax Americana. International relations is all zero sum transactional relations with you people. Oh well, it was nice when America lauded its intellectuals instead of hoisting its simpletons to the upper echelons of governance in furtherance of a kakistocracy. |
Speaking of funny, THAT was hilarious. I don't see jsteele stamped on your comment so I better take my show on the road or what?
Right - that's what I thought. |
