There is a republican president, a republican house, and a republican senate, and you are blaming the democrats for this? LOL!

I guess you don’t watch the news or understand what Schumer did yesterday

We’ve always had guidance before.

At our agency, after doing shut down procedures everyone is furloughed and no one will be recalled as essential until after the weekend. Obviously we're not time-critcal like medical or police, so I'm looking first to a few days break and then back on Monday

How can feds get guidance tomorrow when they will be prohibited from logging on?

Btw, we’re not prohibited from logging on during a shutdown. They updated the guidance so we can use our work devices to check if we’re fired. Sweet

No, we need a shutdown. Trump and Vought are planning massive federal layoffs in their official budget. The threat of layoffs during a shutdown is nothing compared to what's coming ANYWAY. So we're screwed regardless. I do not want Democrats to cave in these conditions. Go down fighting.

They’re not fighting for Feds, they’re fighting for health care benefits that were set to expire anyway. Oh wait- given that unemployed people would be the biggest beneficiaries of an extension, I guess in a way they are fighting for you since it’s likely you’ll be fired.

It will be there when he gets to the office.

DP but we’ve heard nothing as well. No email even as of this morning. Starting my commute soon so hopefully there will be guidance when I arrive.

My organization's public website had a message saying we were open but then it was taken down. So that's fun.

This may be a dumb question but this is my first rodeo with a shutdown. I'm likely to be furloughed today. What happens to my leave requests? I'm supposed to take a few days off in a couple weeks- assuming the shutdown is still ongoing at that time, will I be charged for the leave? Do I need to go back and rescind the leave request? I know this is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, I'm just trying to understand how it all works.

No. All leave is now canceled. So if the government is still shut down you will not be charged leave for those days. The only time card category for your scheduled work hours is the furlough category if you are not excepted personnel.

If the party that controls all the houses of Congress and administration won’t even talk to the other side, didn’t consult them on the bill, and proved after the last time there where they needed some votes (and got them) that they wouldn’t actually follow appropriations decisions and decimated the government anyway, why should the other party give them the votes that they need? Any good businessman like the president supposedly is knows that if you need something from another party you have to make it worth their while and toss them something that they want to get your deal done. The Rs always knew they needed 60 votes but behaved as if they could rule the universe and ignore the Ds. This is on the same day that the President started referring to large parts of the country as “the enemy within” so it’s not like any assurances of bipartisanship are particularly credible. The Ds can’t “work with you” if the Rs won’t even talk to them.

Just to be clear, you can go on your vacation.

I am a different pp and I am on vacation! It’s very nice not being in America for this and getting a bonus of not having my leave used up. I’m going to take off the beginning of October every year!! 😂

what makes you think you will be paid while furloughed? It is not a given.

Because Congress passed a bill in 2019 stating Fed workers will receive back pay during shutdowns! It is a given unless Trump and Vought break the law, which I wouldn’t put it past them.

19 year tenured Fed here and I am actually looking forward to the “paid vacation” from this hell-hole of a federal job. I would leave if I wasn’t so chained in with the golden handcuffs at this point, but I am thrilled to have a few days off without having to report to the office and the depths of satans lair.
