The White Lotus season 2

Murder is an assumption. All we know is that there are deaths. Same as last season.

You know that the correct way to phrase this is “I knew that English wanker was gay,” right? I think you know that. Unless you are in the in-group, you don’t refer to people as “a gay,” “a Black,” or “a Jew.” Unless you’re deliberately trying to be inflammatory.

DP. Please. We’re talking I’m the context of the show here. Tanya herself said “hey, these are some high-end gays!” to Portia.

I lol’d when she said that. So Tanya

I mean, what's the difference between Rachel (season 1 - married to Cornell douche) and Daphne, and Lucia? They all take money in exchange for putting up with a man but I almost respect Lucia more!

Lucia was purely transactional with Dom - had sex, got money, respectfully went on their ways with no relationship.
Rachel semi-transactional with husband - got married, got money, forces self to have a relationship with unlikeable husband.
Daphne semi-transactional with husband - got married, got money, enjoys husband and children, forces self to not despise cheating husband.

I really don’t see those three women as being in purely transactional relationships. Obviously Lucia is but Rachel genuinely seemed to have fallen in love with the man she was with only for that initial glow to wear off and decide she doesn’t like him and Daphne does seem to love Cameron, although she wrestles with his many flaws. I know both of the wives are wealthy due to their husband‘s success but I don’t get the impression that’s the only thing keeping them in the relationship or that’s what they married them for initially

Rachel had a top-notch education and was a writer. It was only after she married and saw she was expected to live her life like his mom—a life of leisure and gossip and nothing of substance. She realized she was in over her head and completely unhappy. It’s like the girl that ends the marriage and has it annulled. There was no indication she was going to ride that marriage out. She was done.

It’s like we saw different show! Rachel went to SUNY Potsdam, was a sub-average gig writer, and returned to him in the airport after she left him!

There's a whole lot of weird fantasy happening in the last page or so of this thread.

I skipped a lot of that nonsense too. D- for the attempt to make formulaic parallels of characters from S1 to S2.
The theme for s2 is masculinity. The theme for s1 was social justice warriors.

I’m just giggling at someone who thinks it’s somehow unreasonable to draw parallels between two seasons of the same show but then has decided the “theme” of one season is “social justice warriors.” I’m guessing you either did not take literary or film analysis courses in college or, if you did, you are still wondering why you got B- and why people always seemed annoyed when you opened your mouth in class.

We all agree in the general themes. We don’t agree with the half baked thing you wrote.

Do you really want to emulate Tanya? She's not exactly known for her sensitivity and thoughtfulness. It made her sound crass, because it was. She is crass, despite, or perhaps because of, her money.

Right here. Still find him sexy. The scene that bothered me the most was the dine & dash. I know the dashing is to add to his bad-boy mystique but just let Portia pay! Or doesn't he get an allowance from Quentin? Sigh, even in my WL fantasy I'm too practical.

Not that he has poop on his D???!?! That was nauseating. When she finds that out….

I mean, come on! Anyone with half a brain would have suspected this guy was “earning his keep” with that group of gays.

Sigh. Tell me you know nothing about this topic without telling me you know nothing about this topic. Many, many gay men keep their chute squeaky clean. The homophobia in this thread is honestly depressing and not what I would expect in 2022.

Ok, I want to talk about the show - I'm going to report all these.

Lucia was not transactional with Albie, though. She didn’t share that she was a prostitute, asked for money after the fact. I also think the pimp wasn’t really one, and she’s tricking him into a relationship just to get more money.

Lucia and Albie are an interesting one. She had sex which she thought was purely transactional but he didn't; but when he learned it was transactional he was still game and so was she!

He’s a pretty naive yet nice 22 yo with no game, that’s what.

Exactly what she said to Mia -- these young naive American boys ... twinkle in her eye.

And thinks nothing of $2000. And believes every lie she says.

I agree, but it might have just been to advance character development before things get going? I hope?

I'm afraid it's going to be a dud because the preview for last week was one of those that included clips from the rest of the season. I hope I'm wrong.

I found this episode 5 or whatever to have several character inconsistencies, that’s too bad in the writing front.

For the street smart hotel manager to suddenly think the concierge woman was hitting in her or open to that makes no sense.
For Daphne to get drunk and go way off base hitting on men made no real sense, after looking disgusted at the other couple’s adultery.
For the hooker to say she’s done sleeping around then go on dates with Albie and surprise him with a $2000 bill, give some pimp daddy story and even lie about Ethan harassing her. Now she’s pure evil.
For the shy chaste piano chick to suddenly negotiate a piano job by propositioning the female manager was out of character too.

Guess everyone suddenly changed. Voila.

Daphne got drunk and hit on men?

Gramps and Tanya remain solid. ablies gross and acting like a 16 yo.

DP - I don't understand all the people that want to hang around with Tanya. I find her GRATING.

As far as the last episode, do you think she was drugged or just drunk? As she's walking through the villa the lights and decor seem kind of distorted as we see it through her point of view. And one other thing is still in the back of my mind - Essex rent boy makes a point to tell Portia to leave the door unlocked for him. I thought that was odd and also something that was put there for the audience to pay attention to. Couldn't he just knock? Couldn't he text and say, hey, open the door, I'm coming back.

I'm also wondering if Tanya is so self-absorbed, and drunk or possibly drugged, that she even processes that they guy she saw is Portia's little fling?

Last, I'm thinking Quentin is not so bad as a murderer but is more a Dirty Rotten Scoundrels type con artist. He mentioned the neverending upkeep of the villa and Essex rent boy previously mentioned that the only women that visit the villa are "old hags."

She definitely knew because in the scenes for next week she warns Portia about him. She doesn't come out and say she saw him banging one of the dudes, but she alludes to him not being who he says he is.

She meant 'Harper. Harper getting drunk and saying outrageous things and hitting on men/waiters was keeping with her outrage at Cameron and for having to keep the secret from Daphne and for her seething anger at her husband for going along with Cameron and 'protecting him' and lying by omission to her. I loved those scenes. She is disgusted by a spouse's gross friend and giving those digs at them and dealing with it by becoming more outrageous and drinking to deal with it. She also is doing it to punish Ethan as well. I thought it was hilarious to watch. She was being very ballsy.

Those aren't 'changes' like the pp suggests. IT is the lesson that 'people aren't always what we first see'. This shows that in glaring detail. Of course, Lucia is dishonest and looking to make a $ and play people. That is actually very much keeping with her core. And, Mia was never 'innocent'. She wants to get ahead at any cost---much like the Hollywood waitress trying to get a break.

The hotel manager is just clueless. She is a lovesick puppy. The desk girl has no idea she's being hit on by her. Also, look how Mia flustered her. It's showing her bravado is a mask for that insecurity inside--likely from being closeted and living in a machismo culture.
