The White Lotus season 2

Or some competition between the two guys? They weren’t really friends after college, so it seemed odd to vacation together without having an ulterior motive, and the financial shakedown, we all thought was going to happen, because Cam didn’t have money, did not seem to be part of the story line in the end.

I think it was a "congrats on becoming rich" trip. Maybe Cam and Daphne wanted to invite them before, but didn't because the income disparity would make things weird.

Depends on how you define bilk. Yes, the trip was most definitely a business expense to orbit and pitch a filthy rich college pal. Rich guys do have to park their money somewhere. For example, it's a safe bet Mark Zuckerberg parks some of his cash with guys he knew from Harvard and the two snapchat billionaire frat boys likely park their money with pals they knew from Stanford. So it's not uncommon and it's not really a scam per se. But it's a hell of a windfall for the connected pals who get the privilege of managing the dough because it generates guaranteed revenue for the pals for as long as they manage the money. It also helps them increase their business because they get to boast about $x assets under management and namedrop the tech zillionaires who trust them to manage their fortunes.

What does being a hipster have to do with being affectionate?!

I think the trope is that hipster women are man-hating, ball busters. Hipster men are performatively pro-feminist, beta, submissive, and as such are secretly despised by the women who proclaim they want such men but actually want a *real* man.

OK, so that may be a trope - but don't you know any actual human beings?

It's just such a weird thing to imagine is accurate about how real people behave. Then again, that applies to about half the posts on DCUM.

I do know human beings. The trope is a caricature, but it comes from somewhere. Smart people in general are less happy than dumb people because smart people can perceive all of the things that are wrong much more acutely than dumb people. Smart women with a feminist worldview see all of the ways in which the patriarchy is harmful to women. That makes them less happy and more focused on gender injustices. The men who love these women are sensitive to that fact. At the least, they try not to be part of the problem. At times, this will take the form of those men not being as open about their sexual desires or as aggressive in pursuing them.

You have a smart woman who is less happy because of gender issues. It stands to reason that she's less interested in sex than if those things weren't the case. You have a guy who isn't pursuing sex as directly or as often. It wouldn't be terribly surprising to find that this couple's sex life is less robust than that of a couple who was blissfully unaware of a lot of what's wrong with the world, particularly with respect to gender issues.

Are you saying with a straight face that only feminists have dead bedrooms? Because honey

Reading newspapers and being brainwashed by Rachel Maddow doesn't make you smart. Harper is no smarter than Daphne. In fact, I bet Daphne and Harper had similar SAT scores. Cameron had a higher score than both. Ethan had the highest.

So sexist on every level. Time do come up from the basement. Mommy is calling you for lunch.

Such a DC nerd thing to believe Cam or Daphne voted at all. Normal young people don’t waste their time voting.

She is oblivious to the fact that when you're a mother, your world revolves around children, not boozy brunches, happy hours and niche social activism with other childless yuppies. Harper thinks Daphne is stupid, when Daphne clearly has the intellect to go to law school and pass the bar, she simply chose to be a mother instead. Harper likely had an abortion in her 20s to remain on track to be a lawyer and she likely had Ethan wearing a p*ssy hat at a women's march.

Most women, including mothers, have female friends. What world do you live in where they don't?

There's a pretty sizable gap between "more often" and "only." As you presumably know.

I’m younger than they are and I vote.

They’re not young people. They’re in their late 30s.

You don’t hang out with girlfriends as often. Harper took that hyper literally and ridiculed her for it, which shows how out of touch and immature she is.

You really think Daphne has literally zero girlfriends? She personifies the rich cliquey outgoing mums who control the private primary schools and travel sports leagues.

Anonymous wrote:Harper is very triggering for a lot of dudes. They suspect that playing by the rules and checking all of the right boxes won't be enough to be attractive. Ethan was rich, good looking, fit, polite, and held all the right views. Harper still didn't really want to have sex with him -- we saw her offering some vacation duty sex, but you could tell - particularly compared to Daphne's interactions with Cameron - Harper was not really that attracted to Ethan.

Her wanting to sleep with Cameron reinforced a lot of fears. Here is a guy who stands for everything she claims to hate and yet, within four days, she's looking to cheat on her husband with him. Chicks dig a**holes.

What?! Harper tried over and over to have s** with her husband and he rejected her. Then she found out he'd had this crazy night while she was out o town, and decided that to heck with it - she was going to have fun here, too. She didn't actually want Cam in the beginning - it was only after Ethan seemed untrustworthy that she let loose with him. She wanted her husband to want her.

She wanted to feel desired. Remember how she tells Ethan on the cell call all the Italian men desire her on their overnight trip. Her husband made her feel undesirable, while Cam as psychotic as he is, didn't hold back his interest. The first day there Cam made a move was her husband was being a creepy porn addict.

I am the PP - and yes, exactly. I know that weirdo who keeps coming on here to post strange stuff about Cam being a section 7 alpha whatever whatever doesn't see it this way. But Harper wanted to be wanted. She tried so hard with her husband and he just kept rejecting him. Ethan having that bender set up a permission structure for her to give in to the man - awful as he was - who expressed real desire for her.

Series 7 is a financial licensing exam that Cam may or may not have. It and his Yale bachelor's were referenced in response to Cam not being an idiot. Cam's quite polished, cunning and charismatic, happily married with children suggests he values stability and optics. Those are all sharp, forward-thinking traits. He seems to have landed at least of chunk of his college roommate's fortune to manage (the entire goal of the trip) and got the best of Harper (icing on the cake sexual conquest for old time's sake). Cam won.

When diid Cam land Ethan's money to manage? I missed that

Literally the entire point of the trip. It was all a business expense — including the money for the hookers. You think Cameron and Daphne wanted to vacation with these bores? It was all a con to get their hands on managing tech boy’s fortune.

but they didn't. Ethan knows he got over on Cam. He finally settled the score and screwed Cam's wife. Cam got a kiss and his wife, who clearly was bothered that he tried with Harper, has one more bit of anger at him even though she keeps it hidden. It is going to boil over sometime. Ethan has the money, had the wife, has a wife who doesn't screw around on him, and has a future. Cam will probably be in jail eventually.

Daphne’s face showed a lot but she also could have been sad that now Ethan is hurt. She snaps out of that fast with a solution.

Well they’re young as hell relative to people who vote. And Daphne is 32.
