When older unattractive (wealthy) men marry

It's patriarchy.

They are using their power to get what they want. A much younger beautiful fit woman.

In this culture, the woman is probably sexually attracted to the entire package. It's not a given that she would think someone objectively unattractive is unappealing. The attraction is wrapped up in the "exchange."

It's gross when you think about it. But few people do really.

It does tell you how men and women are truly valued in our current culture.

Nope. No woman is tricked into being physically attracted to grossness by the guys money. She is just faking it and he is lying to himself.

I’m not an old rich guy or a young, attractive woman, but I think people should mind their own business. Everyone is attracted to different things you never know the inner workings of someone else’s relationship.

If a woman has a high need for financial security and an old guy has a high need for an attractive partner (or wants kids) then more power to them if they find happiness together. Two happy people makes two less DCUM posters.

I suspect that some of them are aware that their wife is primarily marrying them for the money/status they have. And the wife is likely aware that she is being married for her looks (and therefore she has the obligation to keep her looks). Some of them might be deluding themselves. And, heck, some of them might actually be marrying women who love them, and the money is just a bonus.

I tend to agree with 8:34. I don't necessarily think it's a great idea, but I sort of get it.

In my early 30's, I dated a guy who was a bit older than me, and extremely bright. I didn't realize at the time that he was also extremely wealthy - he lived in a 1-bedroom apartment, drove a normal-ish car and didn't come off as rich. But a friend told me later he was "worth 8 figures" at the time, completely self-made. Wouldn't have really changed anything for me - he wasn't right for me, so I ended things and stayed friends with him.

He was just a normal looking guy, but very smart and confident and sure of himself. I definitely went for that. He also liked smart, opinionated women (ended up marrying a really great one), which is sexy too.
