Is there or isn’t there a crisis on the border?

"In an interview with Fox News Channel conducted last week, Trump said a new White House plan to overhaul portions of the legal immigration system could “possibly” include the use of E-Verify. But he also said that the verification system could be overly onerous on certain employers, such as farmers, who Trump said were “not equipped” to use it."

So the story here is that he could possibly include e-verify or not..? This is what constitutes good journalism these days? Not getting worked up until the dust settles.

LOL, this is Trump acknowledging that the wall won't work because the farmers are still able to get undocumented labor. The American farm owners (white rural guys) are pissed about the tariffs, but then demolishing all of their work force with eVerify? That's a bridge too far!

Suckers, every last one of you.

Thats quite a bit of mental gymnastics you've engaged in there.

Since when is the wall the only solution?

What mental gymnastics? eVerify will do more to prevent illegal migrant labor than the Wall. And yet, no Republicans has ever put it in legislation....why didn't Paul Ryan, McConnell, and Trump do this in 2017 when they had complete control of the government?

It's not hard to put two and two together. Trump is backing away from eVerify BECAUSE it will restrict cheap labor. Wages will go up and his buddies in the GOP hate that.

There's this mysterious invention called a search engine.

You put the job applicant's details (name, DOB, Social Security number) into the eVerify database website and it tells you if they are legally allowed to work in the U.S. You can do it using a smartphone or a computer.

It's literally the easiest thing to do. But American employers whine about the "burden" - i.e., they don't want to be punished if/when they hire someone who isn't in the database. That's the jist of why Republicans are skittish about eVerify.

That's simple due dilligence, only takes a few minutes. And it actually PROTECTS employers from being punished if they took that step of verifying identity. "Burden" is just a smokescreen.

Everyone should do everify. If it causes the farmers pain then Congress can expand a seasonal worker program. It is time for us to know who is here, who they are (health, criminal record clean) and that they leave for their home country between work stints. No need to bring family to states - send $ home.

Customs and Border Protection has put up just 1.7 miles of fencing with the $1.57 billion that Congress appropriated last year for Trump's wall along the Mexican border.

The border is 2,000 miles long. At a rate of $920 million per mile, Trump’s border fence would cost $1.85 trillion dollars. Only $1.8 trillion more than Trump’s estimate.

Sounds simple. No papers or ID required?
And you get your yay or nay within minutes?

Democrats are never going to require everify and this can be seen on the map of everify voluntary usage:
http://www.ncsl.org/research/immigration/state-e-verify-action.aspx

I doubt VA would go mandatory everify since Fairfax Dems since even the right to vote in BlueVirginiahas expanded in practice beyond who can actually register to vote. BlueVirginia Fairfax County we just saw the Democratic committee allow anyone with what they present as a permanent address to vote for who goes on the November ballot for the "non-partisan" school board elections. FCPS Budget approximately 3 billion.

No primary option for actual registered voters as in Montgomery County MD https://ballotpedia.org/Montgomery_County_Public_Schools_elections_(2018) . Arlington is more conservative and had a caucus which requires those who participate/vote to be registered voters.
