This comment got me thinking. It's the one thing that Spanberger said about schools that makes me cringe. Otherwise, I like her. I didn't vote for Youngkin, but in regards to school...I think he's done a great job. The school system is failing the kids. I appreciate the standards and accountability he's put in. I celebrate that he finally stood up to cell phones in school! So, if Sears has been under him for the past few years...I may just vote for her. Haven't even considered it until this comment made me think about it. |
You all understand that places like Fairfax Co were already moving forward with cell phone bans before Youngkin did anything, right? He should get very little credit on that front. |
I'm a single issue voter for education and voted straight R. Will never trust Democrats with my kids after Covid. |
I think it might be appropriate to say "trying to move forward." The local helicopter parents weren't going to allow it until it became state policy and even then there is still pushback. |
I’m not a fan of Democrats when it comes to education but it beats the Republican undermining of public schools. I don’t want my kids getting educated by Prager U. |
It is unfortunate to hear that you despise teachers and school staff, but I guess there are many of you out there. |

The open school nutters still haven’t recovered from their pandemic mental health crises. |
| At the high school level, we've been seeing more and more state-mandated tests under Youngkin. my child says they are very poorly thought out and worded. It's frusturating to see the teachers having to teach to the state tests, rather than trust their expertise. I've not been impressed at all with Youngkin's meddling in academics. |
This. Not to mention Trump was President during this time…but why let facts get in the way. |
I dispute your premise. Virginia’s schools are some of the best in the country. Or at least they were until the current administration took over. School “choice” and magnets only dilute this quality and divert much needed funding from our high-performing schools. The focus on underperforming kids is appropriate. It is not at all accurate to say that “no one else is learning grade-level material.” In fact, that so patently false I accuse you of being a lying liar who lies. |

“On September 29, Earle‐Sears’s campaign committee, Winsome for Governor, made a $1,800 charitable donation to the Family Foundation, a Richmond-based extreme anti-LGBTQ+ advocacy group that opposes marriage equality, supports so-called conversion therapy, and in blog posts has described IVF as immoral and likened it to “child trafficking.” The contribution is documented on page 54 of the campaign’s schedule filed with the Virginia State Board of Elections.”

Independent who will be voting for Spanberger. And the entire Dem ticket on Nov. 4. Gov. Youngkin seems to have sold his soul and prioritized his personal political ambitions over serving the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. I have zero confidence in Lt Gov Sears. In addition, I will vote for AG candidate Jones. The fact that Jones' texts were known to Republicans well before October 2025 - but not made into a campaign issue until after early voting started - makes me question the integrity of the Republican party in Virginia. No more opp-research shenanigans.
That's where I am. I've volunteered to drive voters (of any political affiliation) to the polls on Nov. 4. If you are eligible to vote and have faith in our democratic system of governing, please vote. We do not have to agree on candidates but please vote. In these times, it is easy to be discouraged and believe the fascists have destroyed our democracy. But they have not dismantled democracy. Yet. There is hope. Vote. Your vote matters. |
Pp here. Maybe you’re in a better school? I’m at a title 1 school. I don’t disagree that new students need to be brought up to grade level and to learn English. I think that’s incredibly important. It’s just how it’s being handled that’s poor. They just mix all levels together in one classroom and teachers can’t handle that. Maybe instead of resource teachers they should do after school tutoring. The kids already get free aftercare, but it should be more intensive like summer school. Like the other pp I feel like I am also a one issue voter. The state I grew up in had excellent schools and I see how much better schools are for my relatives. I would love magnet schools for my kids. |
You understand that Trump wasn't/isn't able to tell the states how to handle their school issues - right? Sounds like it's you who needs to brush up on the facts.
