My #1 issues is schools and I’ve been happy with Youngkin (especially getting rid of cell phones). I’ve looked into Spanberger’s plan regarding schools and am not happy. Our schools are terrible. I want school choice, more magnets and she is only interested in resource teachers. I’m at a title 1 school and there are already 2-3 resource teachers per classroom, yet every year scores drop. There is such intense focus on underperforming kids that no one else is learning grade level material. Instead of politicians saying they’re for schools- what about teachers and parents?
I dispute your premise. Virginia’s schools are some of the best in the country. Or at least they were until the current administration took over. School “choice” and magnets only dilute this quality and divert much needed funding from our high-performing schools. The focus on underperforming kids is appropriate. It is not at all accurate to say that “no one else is learning grade-level material.” In fact, that so patently false I accuse you of being a lying liar who lies.
Pp here. Maybe you’re in a better school? I’m at a title 1 school. I don’t disagree that new students need to be brought up to grade level and to learn English. I think that’s incredibly important. It’s just how it’s being handled that’s poor. They just mix all levels together in one classroom and teachers can’t handle that. Maybe instead of resource teachers they should do after school tutoring. The kids already get free aftercare, but it should be more intensive like summer school. Like the other pp I feel like I am also a one issue voter. The state I grew up in had excellent schools and I see how much better schools are for my relatives. I would love magnet schools for my kids.
