Wait, the official governing body of US Youth Soccer doesn't have School Grade on their official calculator?

Then why is this thread 400 pages long arguing with School Grade guy?

https://usclubsoccer.org/age-group-cut-off-update-for-2026-27-season/

Why is the age group cut-off changing from January 1 (birth year ages)?

There are multiple reasons for this change.

First, the Aug. 1 age group cut-off most effectively reduces the number of “trapped players” in youth soccer and reduces negative impacts on these players at multiple stages of their career. “Trapped” players are those who, due to soccer age group cut-offs, are in an older soccer age group than their school year. Trapped players have significantly reduced competition opportunities and disrupted training experiences in 8th grade (when most of their team is in high school) and are similarly negatively impacted four years later when players from the older soccer age group, but who are still in high school, are moved down into the same soccer age group.
August 1 to July 31 basically eliminated trapped players. Done deal.

Nobody is argueing that.

They're saying that because players are able to play up the 7/31 in SY 8/1-7/31 is not valid or needed. Which is why 8/1 and younger works.
No, it's a diatribe on trapped players. Arguing there is no need for a 7/31 is an take without a purpose. Clubs limit playing up for various reasons.

8/1/year to 7/31/year works
Yup, Delusional August hater wants to redefine playing down, playing up and what the age range represents. All irrelevant semantics around here. Leagues said Aug-Jul is the age range and clubs around here mostly limiting playing up to the best players and make it rare, like always.

It's still over.

I'm sorry. In your incoherent ramblings, did you say something that added School Grade to the Official US Soccer group calculator?

It's still not there

What you called incoherent ramblings were direct quotes from US Club reguarding the rationale for BY to SY changes which specifically called out grade in school challenges. I also included a link so you could read it for yourself.

Because it got pushed off the page. A better way to list age groups in SY. This is because players can play up.

8/1/2009 and younger = Senior
8/1/2009 and younger = Junior

8/1/2011 and younger = Sophmore
8/1/2012 and younger = Freshman
8/1/2013 and younger = 8th
8/1/2014 and younger = 7th
8/1/2015 and younger = 6th
8/1/2016 and younger = 5th
8/1/2017 and younger = 4th
8/1/2018 and younger = 3rd
8/1/2019 and younger = 2nd
8/1/2020 and younger = 1st
8/1/2021 and younger = kindergarten

It pointed out trapped player problem is solved. So grades don't need to be addressed and they didn't in the age group calculator.

It's been over rules wise since June. But there was a chance NOVA and MD clubs would force kids up. They didn't. It's been over policy wise since January when the MD clubs posted there age group change website info.

Maybe they will force grade year in Fall 2027 but for Fall 2026 they didn't around here.

Nothing is "over" and below is exactly the same as what you like. They both say the same thing. Although this version is much more clear.

It's just that you keep butchering it, pointing out you don't know what you are doing.

Just go to the US Soccer calculator to see what age group your kid is in.

Here is the actual age group calculator.

https://www.ussoccer.com/...calculator

It is league dependent of course.

Your comment would only have weight if 7/31 is incorrect.

See https://www.ussoccer.com/ecosystem-review/player-registration/age-group-calculator to determine your child's age group.

It's over.

Grade year was never under consideration as seen by the US Soccer survey done about 2 years ago asking about BY or 2 versions of SY. And top clubs were never going to handicap themselves in a voluntary type tax way and force quality players up an age group when they didn't/don't have too.

If players are allowed to play up 7/31 is irrelevant. Thats the reason it should be removed.

12/31 made sense in BY because players couldnt play down.

You talked yourself into a circle. In SY, players can't play down either.

It's still over, restating the age groups with different verbage that winds up with the same result in the US Soccer calculator doesn't change a thing.
