Why is the age group cut-off changing from January 1 (birth year ages)?

There are multiple reasons for this change.

First, the Aug. 1 age group cut-off most effectively reduces the number of “trapped players” in youth soccer and reduces negative impacts on these players at multiple stages of their career. “Trapped” players are those who, due to soccer age group cut-offs, are[b] in an older soccer age group than their school year[/b]. Trapped players have significantly reduced competition opportunities and disrupted training experiences in [b]8th grade (when most of their team is in high school)[/b] and are similarly negatively impacted four years later when players from the older soccer age group, but who are [b]still in high school[/b], are moved down into the same soccer age group.[/quote]

What you called incoherent ramblings were direct quotes from US Club reguarding the rationale for BY to SY changes which specifically called out grade in school challenges. I also included a link so you could read it for yourself.[/quote]It pointed out trapped player problem is solved. So grades don't need to be addressed and they didn't in the age group calculator.

It's been over rules wise since June. But there was a chance NOVA and MD clubs would force kids up. They didn't. It's been over policy wise since January when the MD clubs posted there age group change website info.

Maybe they will force grade year in Fall 2027 but for Fall 2026 they didn't around here.[/quote]
