He was setting her up for this to happen and wanted his 5 minutes of fame which he got. There was no reason to record her. There was no reason to provoke her. She may have been raped or attacked in the past which caused her to panic. Both were wrong.

Really - that is your takeaway?

She wasn't near anyone in an open area. He pulled out his phone to yell at her and provke a reaction that he could post on social media.

This. And creepy that he had dog treats but no dog.

No it is not. He's been to that area many times before to birdwatch. He knows that there are many irresponsible dog owners who believe that the rules don't apply to them and they bring their dogs unleashed into the area despite the written signs that dictate the law. The problem is that the dogs roam through the nesting area of some of the ground birds and scare the birds away. And that is because the irresponsible dog owners don't have control of their pets. But, all it takes is someone offering a dog treat for dog owners to do exactly what the racist woman did, they either grab their dogs by the collar or they put their dogs on leashes or they leave the area. In other words, it forces the dog owners to take control of their pets.

So, first he asks them politely to leash their dog. If they don't, he takes out the dog treats which makes most dog owners take control of their pet. And it is far more kind to the animal than spraying it with pepper spray.

And instead of just taking control of her pet, she then decides that she's going to make him pay for that and she endangers his life by committing yet another crime, this time one of slander by making a patently false police report. She got what she deserved losing her dog and her job. She'll be lucky if that's all it costs her for being such a reprehensible creature.

If you look at this woman's Twitter page, all it is is feeds about things.. she was looking for a situation like this. There was no one in that field when you look at the video and there are weeds and over grown plants but nothing a dog is going to harm.

He does not own the property. He cannot dictate or control others actions. It is not his job to police. It is the police who should and he could have called them. The dog is allowed to play in the park. The dog has just as much right to enjoy the park as he does and I don't even like dogs.

He has absolutely NO RIGHT to feed a dog that does not belong to him. It is very threatening to have a stranger approach you and try to take control of your dog and give them food. How does she know the food isn't poisoned? He and the woman who posted the video should equally have consequences. The dog was not bothering him or attacking him.

So, if a stranger walked up to your child and offered them treats, would you be ok with that? If it were a child, we'd worry he was a kidnapper.

Forget dogs. Dogs are all sorts of trouble.

Cats are the answer. They are in your home and can only bother you.

Everyone gets in trouble with dogs.

Central Park this morning: This woman's dog is tearing through the plantings in the Ramble.

ME: Ma'am, dogs in the Ramble have to be on the leash at all times. The sign is right there.
HER: The dog runs are closed. He needs his exercise.
ME: All you have to do is take him to the other side of the drive, outside the Ramble, and you can let him run off leash all you want.
HER: It's too dangerous.
ME: Look, if you're going to do what you want, I'm going to do what I want, but you're not going to like it.
HER: What's that?
ME (to the dog): Come here, puppy!
HER: He won't come to you.
ME: We'll see about that...

I pull out the dog treats I carry for just for such intransigence. I didn't even get a chance to toss any treats to the pooch before Karen scrambled to grab the dog.

HER: DON'T YOU TOUCH MY DOG!!!!!

That's when I started video recording with my iPhone, and when her inner Karen fully emerged and took a dark turn...

<video>

^If this is true, he was baiting her but she should have stayed classy and walked away.

What do you mean if it’s true? It’s from his Facebook page. Both people in the situation behave poorly. They were unnecessarily antagonistic towards each other. It is true that he threatened her. He admits it right there. I’m not excusing her behavior, but people are acting like he didn’t threaten her at all, which is not accurate.

By way of example, let me share my teenage son's experience yesterday - he was verbally harassed leaving a park in our neighborhood by some older white men. My husband, who is not white, witnessed this, it seemed totally unprovoked, and he confronted the men. It ended without violence or police, but even the confrontation was shocker since my husband and son are both about the most conflict-averse people I've ever met.

We later learned from my son's friend that other kids they knew had been in an argument with the older men over some recreational equipment at the park. My son spent a few minutes sitting with his friends and they were laughing about the argument. They were sarcastic and probably even mocking. Should the white men have harassed my son when he was leaving the park? No, of course not - he hadn't even had any contact with them. But he wasn't entirely blameless either.

Everyone is a little nuts these days. I think that Central Park woman was wrong and what she did was dangerous. But without seeing what preceded the snippet, I'm hesitant to call for her firing and imprisonment (as many, many people on Twitter already have done.)

Making a false police report should at a minimum result in a big fine. Period.

She knew what she was doing. There is no denying that she called 911 and made a false report that someone was trying to assail her. That is extremely dangerous. Law enforcement need to hold people accountable.

She said that he threatened her and her dog. That is accurate. Look at what he posted on her Facebook page about what he said. He threatened her.

They both acted really oddly. This is why I don't correct people in public. It never ends well. Christian Cooper should not be offering other people's dogs treats, even if they are annoying the heck out of him by leaving their dogs off-leash. Amy Cooper overreacted, but maybe she did feel threatened.

Yes, they both were at fault for the way things escalated but only one of them could have ended up dead if the police had shown up while both of them were still there.

If she really felt threatened, why did she not scream and run away? Or walk away.

Why did she tell the police that an African-American man was threatening her and her dog instead of just saying “a man” was threatening her?

And if she cared so much about her dog, why was she yanking him around by the neck instead of taking two seconds to put the leash back on and pulling him safely?

She just had to “show” the black guy who was boss by calling the cops....and he could have ended up dead as a result.

Actually, dogs don't have rights beyond not being tortured. The dog has literally no right at all to "enjoy the park", let alone as much right as a man does. A dog is not even remotely equivalent to a child.

Dogs can and do "bother" people 'just' by being off leash. I don't want to worry about a dog running across a field when I have my back turned because some entitled ass thinks they're above the law and don't need to leash their animals in public spaces.

And the man was not dictating the actions of others - he was reminding the woman about the law (that had already been dictated). He could have called the police instead of talking to the woman first, but he'd need to have evidence of the transgression first, which he was getting through the video he was taking (that she had a problem with). She already proved that she has no problem whatsoever lying to the police.

The guy was a bit obnoxious too in the way he approached it, but you seriously can't argue that a dog has rights. A dog is property. Property doesn't have rights, although you do have a legal responsibility to make sure that you aren't breaking laws by having your property engaged in illegal activities.

This is a great article. I hope all of the white Resistance Mamas read this and realize that being a liberal and being a racist piece of shit are not mutually exclusive. When white women ignore or weaponize their privilege, innocent black men and women die.

So ... that's not anything new? I mean, you post this as a gotcha, but everyone who thinks about it for more than a minute pretty much already knows that .... so ??

No, I don’t think it is anything new at all. I know so many people who think that claiming the liberal or progressive title and/or voting/donating to blue candidates absolves them of racism — myself included, at one time. That racism is something that only permeates the MAGAs. Lots of fellow white liberals who say "I'm better than her, I'd never do that" - are you 100% sure? I’m not. Let’s look inward.

I had previously noticed the white liberal problem with antisemitism but hadn’t fully appreciated that it extended to other minorities as well so I appreciated that being called to my attention in this article.

That makes a lot of sense, as white liberals often loathe white people. For example, they are obsessed with stories of racism against black people, but they couldn't care less if the victim was a white person. That is why they love this story.

UMM no. Her dog walker confirmed he walked the same dog for her TWO YEARS AGO.

Mental breakdown my butt. She deliberated decided to off-leash her dog in Central Park and when called on it - decided to both harass that person and get the police to do the same.

He was recording her and harassing her.

She is a racist and totally in the wrong. But I also think the man’s comments to her about hurting the dog and his calling her Karen in his post make him look less than perfect. BUT that’s peripheral - The video shows what black people still have to deal with.

Please highlight his comments “about hurting the dog”. And where he called her “Karen”. I’ve read and re-read his comments - as well as his sister’s post and his Facebook post and I see No such comments.

Okay, for the "please highlight his comments" poster, here you go (from the WaPo article) (sorry, I don't know how to highlight here, but I'm referring to the "you're not going to like it" and "Karen")

Central Park this morning: This woman's dog is tearing through the plantings in the Ramble.

ME: Ma'am, dogs in the Ramble have to be on the leash at all times. The sign is right there.
HER: The dog runs are closed. He needs his exercise.

Then he calls the police like a normal adult and not taking the law into his own hands.

PP here, cut and paste ended with the dot dot dot. That's another poster that said the "then he calls the police" part. Which I don't think he did. He just left I think.

Why was that man carrying dog treats with no dog and trying to take her dog?

Read. The. Thread. This has been asked and answered.

There is no reason for him to be giving that dog any treats. No reason.

Yes there is- to teach entitled dog owners to LEASH THEIR DOGS.
