When you start going around to other parts of the country and see the youth players on the top teams in those markets, you will understand. Most of the high-level girl players in the DMV are relatively small compared to everywhere else.

No Arlington’s skill level is lower vs other top clubs in this area. It is very noticeable if you go to practices at other clubs. No one is making the argument that athleticism is not important. What they are saying is all top teams will be athletic. Arlington did not invest practice time into developing individual skills and that is why the Red 08’s are losing in tournaments against similar athleticism. Obviously you have not seen Arlington because they do have size. If you see top clubs from outside the area(Jeff Cup and Wags top flights), their kids are skilled and athletic.

It’s not like this is some big secret. You can ask coaches at other clubs. They will tell you the same thing.

Still bitter your kid didn’t make the team?

Still bitter that most folks think that your kid is only good at being big and fast?

I doubt McLean will even make it to the final. They will first have to beat both teams in their bracket and they can barely beat NCSL thirst tier teams. Then they have to beat the #2 team in the other side which would be Arlington or Loudoun and should they win beat the other. Remember they lost 5 players from last year. They are not as strong as last year. I don't see it happening.

no Mclean will make the final the refs already know what to do if the game starts going the other way

I guess we will see how each team does. There's no point in speculating. My understanding is that McLean's top team lost 3 players and none of whom was included in the first round of offers. I don't know these players, but I heard that one of the three probably deserved to be included in the first round of offers. But I am surprised that Arlington's level has gone down so much in one season. They were a strong team last year. Arlington teams usually perform worse at older ages when other teams catch up physically, but this is a U12 team so I am not sure why Arlington is doing much worse this year. Did they lose players or is it a result of a coaching change?

This update adds YouthSoccerRankings scores as of October 29th, and has the first look back at the October tournaments … as well as the first look at the November events.

As far as the Bethesda Premier Cup goes, there were 32 U11 girls teams last year and 28 U12 girls teams this year. If my counting is correct, eight teams are repeat offenders from U11 to U12:

Pipeline SC Pre-Academy
Baltimore Union SC Elite
Bethesda SC RL
SYC Blue (was LMVSC Red at U11)
Baltimore Union Select
Salisbury United SC Gold
MSI Academy White
Bethesda SC White

I think "only" two teams (both from VA) have defected from BPC to NCC … Loudoun Red and FPYC. Did the other 20 or so U11 teams just say "Nevemore, nevermore?"

There are three VA teams are going to BPC that did not play there last year (GFR, HERN, and SYC's B).

everyone can clearly see Arlington is number 1 in CCL on TOP of Loudoun being number 2

It would not be surprised if many teams decided to play in a different tournament after last year's fiasco. Obviously, Bethesda cannot control the weather conditions but they selected the fields and made decisions regarding whether to refund the money to the teams that signed up.

Getting 28 teams to register/play is not bad at all considering what happened last year. BSC did decide to use Soccerplex this year and provided insurance. My DD’s team is scheduled to play on a grass field at Soccerplex so the weather/rain will still affect the game but it’s still 1000% better than the swamp at Muldoons. Even the parking lot at Muldoon is a disaster.

anyone going to talk about the elephant in the room?

Mclean has shown they are not top level anymore

Arlington still a top dog going to the finals and losing to a elite team like Loudoun

Pipeline in Bethesda Tournament lost to Bethesda (big shocker)

Baltimore union tied to a weak SYC team shows that Union is no longer a elite team

You can not say Arlington is a top dog if they lose to Loudoun and other area teams. They are a step below Loudoun. Loudoun and Baltimore Union really did not do well in wags. The Richmond Strikers are the top team in the area and they lost convincingly in wags. The ranking seems to be matching performance for the top 5-6 teams in Va.

Too bad things will likely change drastically next fall when DA and ECNL become a factor. The top teams should find ways to play each other once or twice every season.

Here's the head-to-head results (formatting will likely suck):

ARLINGTON SA 2008 GIRLS RED 3 LOUDOUN SOCCER 08G RED 3
MCLEAN 08 GIRLS GREEN 0 A3 ARSENAL 2
ARLINGTON SA 2008 GIRLS RED 2 MCLEAN 08 GIRLS GREEN 1 (semi-final)
A3 ARSENAL 0 LOUDOUN SOCCER 08G RED 1 (semi-final)
ARLINGTON SA 2008 GIRLS RED 0 LOUDOUN SOCCER 08G RED 2 (final)

I've intentionally left off Pittsburgh Riverhounds ?is-this-DA-in-name-only? and Calvert Courage, as it appears they didn't belong in this group (0 - 4 combined). I'll also note that A3 Arsenal is in the "second" division in EDP, but held their own based on the results.

A poster in the NCC thread stated that Arlington and Loudoun had a 7:45AM shootout Sunday morning to determine who would win their bracket. The two were virtually even at that point, and starting the day with a shootout to determine your next opponent is always tough.

After a blazing start in league play for McLean, the results indicate they hit a rough patch in October and November with a tie to St. Mary's and a loss to Arlington's 3rd team. When I saw them in September, I thought that there would be no reason for them to play U12 NCSL in the Spring. Now, I wonder what (if anything in particular) happened. They finished just one point head of DD's team in league play. I still would have loved for them to play the Shenandoah team versus forfeiting due to the scheduling conflict with their club's own tournament.

Mclean is done with. Arlington and Loudoun are the future as results have showed and Richmond Strikers as well.

Yes, 1-2 loss to Arlington means that Arlington is the future and McLean is done with. Oh, wait, Arlington lost to Loudoun 0-2 on the same day, which means that only Loudoun is the future. What are we going to do when Loudoun loses by a goal or two? The analysis is so deep here. Sarcasm.

Is that because Loudoun can't beat Pipeline? Or is it because it looks like Bethesda is improving more than anyone else thus far?
