Woman missing after reporting seeing a toddler on the highway

I think this story needs to stop. She clearly was having a mental health crisis. Young people do dumb things. Let it go.

And be willing to risk your phone, Apple watch, wallet, wig, and car (which by leaving it running, with the door open, was begging people to take it).

If her SIL was in on it, and the two were together, why didn't her brother say that she was also missing or gone that evening? Why couldn't Carlee have slept at their house to go to a party? It's not clear that she lives with her parents. Also, how could she jump down from a highway? Reports said there was a tunnel running underneath it.

I don't know why everyone is harping on the parents, they suffered great trauma.

I agree with you to an extent, but the case illustrates the danger of using social media to promote their own agendas by publicizing a single case where the true circumstances are unknown. If so many people weren't claiming that it was racist to suggest that the story sounded suspicious or branding anyone not taking the kidnapping story at face value as yet another example of how people don't take the complaints of Black women seriously, people would be more willing to let it go.

Something happened. It was probably a family or mental health issue. We should let it go.

Not clear it's a mental health crisis, versus just a super dumb ass, immature, narcissist.

As the parent of a kid with mental health issues, the two are very different things.

People pay extra attention to you.

That's really what it all comes down to.

Attention.

Most missing person's cases don't blow up like this, she fabricated a really bizarre story and so the public latched onto it. I don't think she ever imagined it would blow up like this. I don't think she ever accounted for things like ALDOT footage.

This was a ruse for extra special attention. From who? Maybe the boyfriend, maybe family, maybe friends, maybe everyone. It doesn't really matter now. I hope she finds peace in her confusing ass life.

I am following this story. Apparently, the “bf” is an ex. The ex cheated on her with another woman and he was leaning more towards the new girl than her. Carlee staged this story, with a friend, with whom met her at the highway/hoods. Carlee wanted the attention of the ex. She got it! He posted her on Instagram for her safe return and was so excited when she returned. She stayed safely with a friend at a hotel all weekend until they realized this went too far and she returned home. The parents were not initially in on it but is playing it off now as to not disturb the world. Carlee did not mean for this to get nationwide attention, I do not believe. However, it was so stupid of her and I hope she gets the maximum penalty. She messed with the African American community, the small town, the black women that go missing, and the religious community. Shame on her.

I agree this is what happened. She is dumber than a box of rocks and I don’t understand why her family keeps insisting the kidnapper is out there when they know better. The story would die quicker if they hushed up.

The smartest thing they could have done when she returned was not to continue the story but claim that she had mental health issues and getting the help she needs. We would have sympathy for her and this would have all died by now. But no, she and her family continues this nonsense of a story.

This. The family is the one making it drag out in the press. I would be old news otherwise.

Because the parents now know what happened when she returned but is continuing the lie for the daughter. The brother knew and never got involved with this BS. Everyone else is dumb. Previous poster, not every dumb young adult is going through mental health issues. Some are just dumb

Her career is basically ruined but honestly I wish she would be brought up on charges

I’m not sure her career is ruined, but she has a lot of growing up to do.

She’s young. 25 year olds—especially sheltered 25 year olds—are a little unhinged. Hopefully this experience will knock some sense into her. It needs to start with her parents though.

Come on. By 25 I was married, in law school, and preparing for the birth of my first child. A 25 year old is not a teen.

Boom. we'll prob find out she's done this before.

What if the parents truly believed she was missing, UNTIL she called them from the Red Roof.

IF that was the case, I could see them start working WITH her, trying to find a way to get her back home without it coming out that she was faking.

And now trying to figure out how to get her out of this mess. Spoiler 🚨: not possible

but they surely do know now, and are therefore now complicit in the false narrative the whole family continues to publicize.
I think she’s a spoiled brat who never was held accountable for her actions.

This. At 25, I was engaged, in law school with strong job prospects lined up, living on the other side of the country from my family.

My mom likes to remind me that when she was 25, my dad was the dean of a phd program, and my mom would host the 15+ phd students and their SOs to a full seated meal at our home.

My "unhinged" friends at age 25 were doing dumb stuff like driving by an ex's house or drinking too much.

Yep, DH finished law school at 25 (he went straight through) and we were buying our first townhouse then.

If this turns out to be a hoax, I would never support giving this woman a nursing license, at least not until many years have passed and she has proved herself to be a changed person. Assuming that the report was a lie, she selfishly wasted resources and created fear in the community. I find continuing to cling to the kidnapping story after her return to be the most egregious part of the story. I can forgive the mistake on a personal level but would not issue a professional license to an adult with such poor judgment and irresponsible behavior.

No joke I will be watching that police press conference. Now that I'm 99% sure that it is a hoax I find story this fascinating. I need to the police to bust this thing wide open...Law and Order style.

I will be en route home from work at 3:30 and I’m sad I won’t be able to watch in real time.

Wow. Probably not that different really, just depending on whether you're related to the narc or not.
