Woman missing after reporting seeing a toddler on the highway

Assuming that the report was a lie, she selfishly wasted resources and created fear in the community. I find continuing to cling to the kidnapping story after her return to be the most egregious part of the story. I can forgive the mistake on a personal level but would not issue a professional license to an adult with such poor judgment and irresponsible behavior.

IF??? IF????

Her career is basically ruined but honestly I wish she would be brought up on charges

I’m not sure her career is ruined, but she has a lot of growing up to do.

She’s young. 25 year olds—especially sheltered 25 year olds—are a little unhinged. Hopefully this experience will knock some sense into her. It needs to start with her parents though.

Come on. By 25 I was married, in law school, and preparing for the birth of my first child. A 25 year old is not a teen.

This. At 25, I was engaged, in law school with strong job prospects lined up, living on the other side of the country from my family.

My mom likes to remind me that when she was 25, my dad was the dean of a phd program, and my mom would host the 15+ phd students and their SOs to a full seated meal at our home.

My "unhinged" friends at age 25 were doing dumb stuff like driving by an ex's house or drinking too much.

Such a SAH mom accomplishment to post.

What was the age difference between your parents? Did their reposted from him dating a student?

Weird. I'm the PP you're responding to. I'm a partner in biglaw - 18 years later. Making 7 figures.

My dad was 30. He and my mom met while she was in undergrad and he was doing his first masters. He is a genius who they fast tracked through his phd program in 2 years, worked a couple years on tenure and then was promoted to dean at 30. My mom was not a student; she worked in retail management until having kids. She was hosting as the wife of the dean, not as a student.

Weird that you hated my post so much.

Yeah I thought PP’s post was odd too.

People pay extra attention to you.

That's really what it all comes down to.

Attention.

Most missing person's cases don't blow up like this, she fabricated a really bizarre story and so the public latched onto it. I don't think she ever imagined it would blow up like this. I don't think she ever accounted for things like ALDOT footage.

This was a ruse for extra special attention. From who? Maybe the boyfriend, maybe family, maybe friends, maybe everyone. It doesn't really matter now. I hope she finds peace in her confusing ass life.

I am following this story. Apparently, the “bf” is an ex. The ex cheated on her with another woman and he was leaning more towards the new girl than her. Carlee staged this story, with a friend, with whom met her at the highway/hoods. Carlee wanted the attention of the ex. She got it! He posted her on Instagram for her safe return and was so excited when she returned. She stayed safely with a friend at a hotel all weekend until they realized this went too far and she returned home. The parents were not initially in on it but is playing it off now as to not disturb the world. Carlee did not mean for this to get nationwide attention, I do not believe. However, it was so stupid of her and I hope she gets the maximum penalty. She messed with the African American community, the small town, the black women that go missing, and the religious community. Shame on her.

I agree this is what happened. She is dumber than a box of rocks and I don’t understand why her family keeps insisting the kidnapper is out there when they know better. The story would die quicker if they hushed up.

The smartest thing they could have done when she returned was not to continue the story but claim that she had mental health issues and getting the help she needs. We would have sympathy for her and this would have all died by now. But no, she and her family continues this nonsense of a story.

Ok, I'll be the one to ask... was there a Go Fund Me?

If there wasn't, why wasn't there?

The family vrey specifically requested no GoFundMe and to donate any money to CrimeStoppers, but someone apparently started a GoFundMe which was closed (possibly because it was not actually affiliated with the family, but nobody knows)

There is discussion about the mother sharing her Venmo account for donations, the amount of food and drinks that were donated (Chick-fil-A, etc) for the searchers, the mel train started up by a neighbor, etc., but I haven't seen anything other than Facebook discussion of this by purported neighbors. It seems to be a source of contention currently among those Facebook posters who were quite energetic in support early on, but I don't know that you can count any of that as confirmed, other than the official family statement requesting no GoFundMes.

She worked at the Woodhouse Day Spa. She’s not a real nurse so people mentioning her nursing license are misguided there. I don’t think it was a mental health break or even an intentional “hoax” as much as a dumb dramatic girl who really didn’t realize it would blow up this big and she’d have to answer for it. I kinda think she thought she’d do whatever, come home “safe” and everyone would celebrate and that would be it.

She is in nursing school, and thus, presumably will be wanting a nursing license in the future. We are aware where she works for her part time job while she is in school, it was repeatedly mentioned in articles, and is not relevant to her education/future desired career as a nurse.

She's been described as a nursing student in almost every news article - that's why people are mentioning a nursing license.

It wasn’t really dense woods. Someone showed a map of the area and it’s just a treeline abutting a residential neighborhood

So easy to meet up with a friend according to plan.

Like her brother’s girlfriend.

I have to say, I’m fairly impressed with Hoover/Alabama LE. I understand I’m from not the south and it’s generally a whole other universe to me, but I don’t believe they could’ve handled this clear fabrication any better. Especially as family and friends still continue to lie to media and the public. It would’ve been so much easier to make a statement thanking LE and everyone who came out and supported them and now that Carlee is home, the family is going to take some time and require privacy to do so. It would’ve even been reasonable to say school pressure is tough and sometimes people need a break etc etc. But between the fighting physically yet somehow having the foresight to grab her Target snacks, this girl is a real nutcase.

Did she actually say she was kidnapped by a trucker?

Are you such a snob that you expect Hoover/Alabama LE to be stupid? Check yourself.

It’s a fair assumption that many smaller PDs, and some larger ones, will be pretty incompetent in many things. The police botching an investigation is something you hear about rather frequently.

I'm a DP, so I can't be sure what the PP meant. However, I agree with the post and don't see it reflecting an expectation that the police would be stupid. What's commendable is their restraint in not pushing back against the family and making every effort not to cast Carlee in a negative light. It's hard to be that delicate and restrained when the family is saying things to the national press that, if true, make the department look bad (i.e. there's a kidnapper on the loose, and the police aren't doing a damn thing about it). They have acted with restraint and kindness, which is rare these days.
