People pay extra attention to you.

That's really what it all comes down to.

Attention.

Most missing person's cases don't blow up like this, she fabricated a really bizarre story and so the public latched onto it. I don't think she ever imagined it would blow up like this. I don't think she ever accounted for things like ALDOT footage.

This was a ruse for extra special attention. From who? Maybe the boyfriend, maybe family, maybe friends, maybe everyone. It doesn't really matter now. I hope she finds peace in her confusing ass life.

I am following this story. Apparently, the “bf” is an ex. The ex cheated on her with another woman and he was leaning more towards the new girl than her. Carlee staged this story, with a friend, with whom met her at the highway/hoods. Carlee wanted the attention of the ex. She got it! He posted her on Instagram for her safe return and was so excited when she returned. She stayed safely with a friend at a hotel all weekend until they realized this went too far and she returned home. The parents were not initially in on it but is playing it off now as to not disturb the world. Carlee did not mean for this to get nationwide attention, I do not believe. However, it was so stupid of her and I hope she gets the maximum penalty. She messed with the African American community, the small town, the black women that go missing, and the religious community. Shame on her.

If she really did make this up to gather attention / sympathy, it makes sense that she'd include the detail of an abandoned toddler. It makes her look like a Good Samaritan, thoughtful, compassionate, etc. I wonder if she knew people would make the leap to sex trafficking.

It's a much more "exciting" story than, say, she went for a hike and disappeared.

I agree this is what happened. She is dumber than a box of rocks and I don’t understand why her family keeps insisting the kidnapper is out there when they know better. The story would die quicker if they hushed up.

There is footage of her walking casually home through her neighborhood. When she get close to her house, she starts running/freaking out to put on a show for everybody

How dare you? It’s not fabrication. It’s “telling her truth”. Or whatever the hell she wants it to be.

She's a lying, manipulattive, nutjob. People need to stop giving her and her family attention.

Her career is basically ruined but honestly I wish she would be brought up on charges

A hike would have been so much easier to pull off as "got lost."

I’m not sure her career is ruined, but she has a lot of growing up to do.

She’s young. 25 year olds—especially sheltered 25 year olds—are a little unhinged. Hopefully this experience will knock some sense into her. It needs to start with her parents though.

This is my favorite:
"The snacks Russell purchased at Target were not at the scene."
so the kindappers didn't want her phone or wig or whatever, but yeah bring your snacks!

She’s just walking through the woods in the middle of the night, wigless and munching on some Doritos lol

The smartest thing they could have done when she returned was not to continue the story but claim that she had mental health issues and getting the help she needs. We would have sympathy for her and this would have all died by now. But no, she and her family continues this nonsense of a story.
