I don't understand the hate for this forgiveness. It works out to forgiving $2500/year for a four year degree.
I wish it could just be a grant instead of loan forgiveness, but we don't have that kind of system at the moment, so loan forgiveness will have to suffice. |
Okay, fair enough a-hole (since we're name-calling). Still incredibly dumb to suggest the recipients are all households earning $250k when that is the max. Not to mention, the author of that tweet made $1.6 million from the PPP program. Who paid for that, a-hole? Face it, both parties reward their constituencies with handouts, you just choose which one to be more angry about. |
Yes, this is true broadly as part of PSLF... perhaps not nearly as much for this blanket $10K forgiveness. |
Because it’s only free money to the person receiving it. Those that paid their loans are now paying someone else’s |
You're paying TAXES, which go to all sorts of things that you may not like, including forgiving a bunch of rich people's PPP loans. |
Every dollar the US government spends or doesn't collect has to be paid for somehow. Not everyone agrees this is an efficient or productive spend of $10K per recipient. |
kind of like how people without kids are paying for your kids education. Or the people who don’t commit crimes are paying incarcerate people who do. Or people who don’t get sick pay insurance premiums that pay for the people who are sick. We’re talking about absolute pennies or less, compared to hundreds of dollars every month for insurance, for example. |
You're a typical DC area rich, educated, liberal. So angry that the middle class gets a little benefit while your parent's 529 took care of yours. Go ahead and vote for the fascist party, that will work out better for me than you as well. |
Or how her mortgage is so massive that she gets to itemize her interest so we all have to pay extra for the taxes she writes off. |
You're not middle class. |
Massive whataboutism in this thread. Is there any spending that you would disagree with? Anything that would make your what about that deduction no longer a valid point? It isn't a valid point at any level but wondering what you think. |
Yes I will argue about all spending when you GOP voters sent a TV salesman grifter to the White House and gave up on fiscal conservatism. Honestly if we don't benefit from spending then y'all would just give it to Musk, Bezos, or Russia. |

| Republicans give you an unwanted child while Democrats pay your student loans. |
Only if they earn within the allowable limits. |
