What is going on with student loans?

Don't pawn it off on the innocent tax payer

Exactly! This is how it should be with all loans, even those pesky PPP loans.

But seriously, we didn't budget for loan repayment and I bet most of the people with only $20-30k in debt didn't either. There will absolutely be political and economic problems once people get their $300/month bill while servicing rent and other high-interest debt. But at least a few hundred UMC here will be satisfied.

But jobs that qualify someone for PSLF (including doctor & lawyer jobs) pay absolute dogcrap, so it evens out.

Umm. No they do not. They pay very well.

PSLF isn't limited to public defenders and free health clinics, just FYI.

I know that. Most PSLF-eligible jobs pay crap. Teaching, social work, anything at a university etc

Not at all. And certainly not in comparison to their professional school debt loads.

Uh, no. Doctors who work for nonprofit hospitals absolutely do get market wages. Wages, of course, depend on your speciality. If you do residency and speciality training at a nonprofit hospital, you’ve already knocked off 5-7 years of payments under PSLF. Might as well finish out the 3-4 years and get the very large balance forgiven while making the bare minimum payment.

Many have payroll outsourced to for-profit “physician groups.”

Many don't. Find one that doesn't

Senate voted 52-46 to kill the student loan forgiveness proposal. Manchin, Sinema, and Tester voted with 49 Republicans.

This is great news for conservatives. It’s no longer just Manchin and Sinema holding out.

Why is this a great thing? With exorbitant college costs and saddling people with loans, we are discouraging generations of Americans from going to college. We are punishing Americans for getting an education.

Conservatives want us in a race to the bottom. I fail to see how any of this is a great thing.

How much do you owe? What is your degree? How much do you earn now?

Pay your debts.

Conservatives didn’t sign your loan and conservatives aren’t punishing you.

This is exactly what needs to happen. There is insufficient market forces to dissuade people from going to six layer directional universities and dog crap private schools. These kids need skills that will make them productive. Not a four year holding tank of compete BS.

All the liberal professors are in on the gig too. Let’s get them to do some real work. We have an infrastructure problem. Have them build the bridges and actually be productive for once.
