What is going on with student loans?

So what are they actually going to do about the ridiculous cost of college and the predatory interest rates on college loans? I really don’t mind a blanket 10k loan forgiveness for those making under 100k a year (not 250k, that’s absurd) but unless there are systemic changes all this does is help those who already have loans, let universities know their pricing is fine, and probably lead to current HS students being more willing to take out college loans assuming it will be forgiven in some capacity.

I agree with you, but It’s on Congress to figure this out. For-profit student loan scam colleges - that largely donate to Republicans - absolutely do not want any skin in the game. Congress sets the interest rate for student loans and many of those old doddering fools see student loan interest as a great way to fund the government in lieu of tax increases.

Biden is working with the limited tool kit he has available to him in the current laws. If you want college reform, the efforts must start with Congress.

“These people” are mostly low paid teachers, social workers, and people who started a degree but couldn’t finish (they are in the worst position - no pay bump but they have the loans hanging over them).
