IAC Lacrosse 2019 Season

Gonzaga struggled to beat both O’Connell and St Johns in the past ten days, I’m really not convinced the Purple Eagles have improved much this season.

Beating a team in March is a heck of a lot easier than beating a team in May.

Interesting assessment. My take on the SJC game was that SJC played hard for the first quarter and part of the second but then they totally lost their stamina and caved. It was a palpable difference. I didn't see the O'Connell v Gonzaga game.

In fact, a lot of games are like that. It is the team that plays the most consistently throughout all four quarters that usually will win and in general Gonzaga is the team that maintains its consistency. The Prep game would be neck-in-neck because both teams would have incentive. Bullis would still lose to Gonzaga.

Destruction of property

Not a single lax player was involved in that egregious incident. It was the CREW team.

and the catholic university stands... and the soccerplex stands?

My second take is that Gonzaga must have had a huge SOG but the completion rate was abysmal. If even 1/3 of those shots had hit the net then they would have walked away with the game. It wasn't stops by the SJC goalie, the balls were high, wide, on the pipe, you name it. One guy's ball hit the pipe so hard the front of the goal came up over 2 feet. I don't see that too often in hs or college and I watch a lot of lax. I don't know the stats but if Gonzaga improves its completion rate then there is no team in the area that would be able to beat them this year. Of course, there are only 3 more games left in the season...but they are games that count!

2 feet!!!!!! that's amazing.... and also physically impossible based on the weight of the ball and the weight of the cage.

Thoughts on the IAC games tomorrow?

Landon at Bullis

Saints at Lil Hoyas

snooze games. Bullis and Prep in the final.

Bullis wins big against the Bears and Saints knock of GP

Would not call them snooze games. Both teams have to be careful to not look ahead. Landon and SSSA are playing well.

I think both games are toss-ups.

The DC area, in general, this year does not have a truly elite team.

GZ is elite

Elite teams and Elite talent are two different things. There is Elite talent all over the DC Metro area, where that talent has gelled and is used appropriately is a different thing entirely. This comes down to coaching. The fact that Landon is still in the mix, despite Bordley's retirement, is a testament to the new coaches. They are taking the the two more talented teams in Prep and Bullis and giving them fits. I would not be surprised at all to see Landon win the IAC tourney.

Agree Landon’s coaching has been a big surprise.

GZ is very talented, but hard to say elite when you look at some of their scores from this year. Sneaking by O'Connell 10-9 last week stands out as a non-elite outcome. How did that happen? Was GZ missing a ton of players due to injury? O'Connell shouldn't be able to sniff GZ - they are average at best. O'Connell lost to a much improved Bishop Ireton this year and are losing ground fast to 2nd tier WCAC teams. So much for Coach Giblin's magic . . .
