Boeing from a few pages back says it would be pinging from the ocean if it is there. There's a backup box in case the first one goes out. If there is no pinging it's not in the ocean. Crash landing on land? Is anyone doing land searches outside of India on the Andaman islands?

The same NYT article says "Investigators have also examined data transmitted from the plane’s Rolls-Royce engines that showed it descended 40,000 feet in the span of a minute, according to a senior American official briefed on the investigation. But investigators do not believe the readings are accurate because the aircraft would most likely have taken longer to fall such a distance.

“A lot of stock cannot be put in the altitude data” sent from the engines, one official said. “A lot of this doesn’t make sense."

I can't believe the NYT printed this. So, is this supposed hijacker wearing a space suit? Did he hide it in his carry on luggage? How else would this hijacker survive in that altitude? If the cabin is depressurized, the temperature drops to what?? The hijacker would be frozen along with everyone else.

If it's true the plane ascended at some point, it's possible a malfunction in the autopilot did this? A struggle in the cockpit? Sabotage? An explosion?

Whatever happened, I'm betting it's malfunction + pilot error. My heart goes out to the families. Unbearable for them.

They're saying he was a suicide terrorist and that's how he killed himself and everyone else. More cowardly to die that way rather than crashing.

If that is is the case, "cowardly" would have been the least of his concerns.

No, that was his ONLY concern. Death at that point was certain but he could choose impact or passing out.

My theory is they gassed the passengers to death if it is a hijacking. No one gets away with a hijacking a plane after 9/11. I realize it was 1:30 a.m. when it happened, but not all passengers would have been asleep.

Gas? Where will they hide this gas? What gas would kill the passengers and not the pilot/hijackers?

It's possible the plane was depressurized/oxygen cut off to render the passengers unconscious, but somehow this maneuver would have had to keep the pilot/hijacker alive. How??

The fact that there has been not a single cell phone communication from the passengers makes clear that all are dead.

A botched hijacking? My bet remains that the plane is at the bottom of the ocean, all aboard have perished.

Majority of people on the plane were Chinese so they dont have the 9 11 perspective americans do. Plus it was overnight so most were sleeping.It is possible hijackers exploited this.
