That doesn't appear to be confirmed.

There's a lot of rumors. There isn't any confirmation that the plane crashed off of Vietnam, or elsewhere.

The Today Show is reporting that it may have crashed into the ocean. The pilot was experienced.

My gut says that we're going to find out that this is like Egypt Air where a pilot brought the plane down. Planes just don't blip off the grid at cruising altitude with nothing else, no trouble calls, nothing.

They are not sure it crashed off the coast. There is no sign of the aircraft anywhere.

Really strange. The South China Sea is well traveled and often filled with fishing vessels, cargo ships, and other boats. Strange that no one saw anything or felt anything on the water.

The good thing is, whatever happened, seemed to happen extremely fast. So the people on board hopefully were gone before they realized what was going on.

That air france plane fell out of the sky in the middle of the south Altantic without a distress call.

It is just how they report official counts. It basically means two lap babies who weren't in seats. It doesn't mean there were 't many more children on board as any child who has a seat is counted under the passenger total. So when they list the total number of people on board they say x passengers (seats) + infants + crew. It gives a true accurate count.

It's not that strange; even "small" oceans are huge. That said, I think they have spotted oil slicks, so they know kind of where it is. Very sad.

yes LA Times reports oil slicks found consistent with that of a jetliner

Yes, that's what I thought, too.

How awful.

This cannot be good.

Well, I'd rule out weather. That leaves catastrophic mechanical failure, pilot error, terrorism, or pilot suicide.
