Well said. |
Not a Crossfield parent, but the comments on the Rooted in Oakton petition lead one to believe that they are mostly concerned about their property values and worse. |

Overall what I’m seeing in this thread is annoying me.
Why is everyone totally perseverating on Crossfield and middle school AAP yet nobody is curious about what FCPS intends to do with the building besides keep the Swimming Pool. They have no plans outlined whatsoever. As per what I saw earlier, other school districts publish their plans despite security concerns, and FCPS has done so with every school on the Queue as of recent, including Centreville and Falls Church High Schools. LCPS and APS also publish school schemes (to some extent), with plans for the new HS-14 and Park View replacement posted, and plans for the new Arlington Career Center are also published online, and I think also for Dorothy Hamm Middle School too. So where’s Skyview’s plans, huh? Does nobody have a morsel of curiousity? No renderings either. |
+10000 Also, for all the new pathways Skyview is supposedly introducing - has anyone seen any information as to how teachers will be trained/qualified for these roles? An aerospace pathway is pretty unique and requires highly specific training, outside of general staff training offered across FCPS. |
Agreed. There’s literally nothing stopping *any* FCPS resident from speaking about the proposed changes and providing feedback through the boundary tool. |
Somewhere along the way, they have said (maybe at a work session?) that they would turn the two shell buildings into classrooms. I would assume that would come prior to 2027 start of school. That is not a particularly big project. Businesses adapt buildings frequently. As far as the swimming pool, I have no idea. I don't think that is at the top of mind right now as getting classes up and running and the building prepared for that is far more important. At one session, they mentioned offering lifesaving classes to 11th and 12th graders as. I think, an Academy type program, but I'm not sure how that works. I think there is more going on than your realize. Maybe, those parents who have been to the sessions about the school can tell us more. |
Yes, but what’s the main building gonna be like. That’s the building I’m more concerned about than those two shell buildings. |
Yeah, but FCPS has a point about it being close to IAD. And on Stonecroft Road, United Airlines has a training center of some sorts, meaning that FCPS could partner with United which has a hub at Dulles, or with the MWAA, FAA, and whoever to find willing instructors for HS students that way maybe. The AI and Robotics does require its own people though. |
Can you send link to what you are referencing? I didn’t see a way to add comments to slides so would like to do so. |
Interesting. On Stonecroft Rd? Maybe, they should open an academy at Westfield since it is also on Stonecroft Rd. That would make far more sense and maybe fill some space. |
True. But the actual address for the facility is 14111 Park Meadow Drive, so actually, it’s poplar tree road, which turns into Stonecroft after it crosses 28. |
I meant to say poplar tree road, as it’s like right past the intersection of walney and poplar tree. |
Just checked: 2.5 miles to Westfield; 6 miles to Skyview Put an academy program at Westfield! |
|
Westfield doesn't need an academy program.
They need full time academic programming to attract more full time students. Kids popping in for one class on baggage handling and then going back to their base schools does absolutely nothing for Westfield. |
They can PP at Westfield. Too far otherwise. |
