There is no level 3 anymore, they got rid of the levels a few years back and I cannot remember what they are calling things now. That aside, because I still think of them as levels, there never was Level 3 in MS. MS was only AAP/L4/Full time. ES L3 kids took honors classes. |
They’re not going to move Crossfield into Franklin and then move them out 2 years later. I know they rarely follow Policy 8130, which says not to move the same students more than once over a 3 year period. But in this case, undoing changes from the Skyview study to apply AAP at all MS — an initiative they were fully aware of when building these scenarios, would be them admitting to a giant mistake, which they never do. No, Franklin-Chantilly kids will be shuffled to Rocky Run to make room. They caused the same problem at Thoreau when they moved Wolftrap there. When the AAP students return to Thoreau and it becomes (more) overcrowded, they aren’t sending Wolftrap back to Kilmer. They’re going to boot the Oakton schools to Jackson. |
They haven’t been encouraging Franklin exactly. They provide tours of both as an option. Students have always had a choice and Carson is a really good middle school so most opt in. (I’m not saying Franklin is not, just that Carson carries a better academic reputation). |
| Franklin would be equal to Carson in math comps and sending kids to TJ if parents sent their AAP kids to Franklin. But parents seem to struggle to see that for some reason. |
They're more likely to move Lees Corner to Rocky Run than to move Crossfield out of Franklin. And yes, I know that Franklin is within Lee's Corner's boundaries but the AAP changes will require significant boundary changes as the centers go well under capacity and the base schools go way over. |
Plus, didn't you know that Carson is full of weapons, gangs, and drugs? I'm shocked that AAP parents send their precious kids there, LOL |
LOL The Oakton parents complaining probably have kids at Carson as AAP transfers. |
My DC chose Carson over Franklin since all the friends went there. Fcps should remove ES AAP center first, so the same ES kids go to same MS without being separate from their friends from a different ES. |
Kids want to go with their friends. My kid opted in to Skyview as soon as it was available. No one else in his friend group seemed interested but he knew kids from other schools that were opting in and was fine with moving without a ton of his ES friends. Then a few of his friends started looking at it and opted in because they found the pathways interesting. By the 1 Mar date, all of his friend group had ended up opting-in, some because they were interested in the program, others because their friends were going to Skyview. Only 1 of the 15 or so kids we knew decided to return to the base HS and that was for sports. You might be surprised to find that if more kids who are going to Carson because that is where their friends are going said "I am going to Franklin" how many kids might decide to go to Franklin because they knew kids who were staying. I suspect that there are more people who are on the fence about moving to Carson and just go with the flow. |
I think this makes complete sense. Kids want to be with their friends. Simple as that. Again, it goes back to the concept of keeping communities together. |
Rocky Run is overloaded with Liberty and Stone AAP. 40% of the current membership. https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/SY2025-26SullyMagisterialDistrict.pdf Carson, Rocky Run, Stone, and Franklin are all in the Sully District. Liberty and Chantilly HS are in Springfield. Does the Springfield school board rep show up at meetings? Maybe this is why Chantilly has become the overcrowded mess - decades of lack of attention? Robyn Lady is Herndon/Dranesville but worked at Chantilly and has expressed more interest and concern than the actual rep. |
Lady pays a lot more attention to Chantilly, where she worked for many years, than to the schools that are in her district. Maybe she needs to move to Sully or Springfield. |
Kathy Smith lives in Chantilly boundary and her kids went there. She was rep for several years. She took interest and picked winners and losers for Poplar Tree and Chantilly. Pretty sure she also looked out for Rocky Run. Greenbriar is in Springfield district. Not sure how much Springfield rep pays attention. Maybe some Greenbriar people can weigh in. I'm a parent of Chantilly grads. Seems like I remember them playing a video of Springfield rep at back to school night. |
Exactly. They have floor plans in slideshows showing what the school looks like in its pre-renovated state and what it will look like post renovation. And plus, with the advent of vestibules, schools are becoming safer and more secure. They don’t just let anyone in, as a valid reason needs to be given to the secretaries. |
Thus provihg FCPS is intentionally making the process behind opening Skyview highly confusing. |
