| The Walney kids staying at Chantilly are farther away than the Brookfield kids being moved.... |
There are a lot of areas that were proposed to be moved at various scenarios. None of those areas should be "off the table" IMO. This last scenario is supposedly just the consultant's POV. |
You never answered the question about who you think should be moved from Centreville. Is it no one? Just curious since it is your school. |
|
Westfield PTA should be asking for special concessions from FCPS on their school's staffing formulas to try and keep at least some of their classes and teachers. FCPS isn't going to give them a reasonable number of students bc they are too cowardly, so they might be willing to throw some money at the problem instead.

I'm not in the business of offering up other people's neighborhoods to get moved. I'm arguing the total number FCPS decides to reassign should not hollow out Centreville just because some at Westfield apparently think the school is entitled to at least 2300 kids. If you want to argue X should move and Y should stay, that's on you, although you or someone else keeps claiming Westfield parents are too humble to say that. |
At least acknowledge an expansion is no longer needed since there are 800 open seats nearby. JHC. Read the room. |
I agree and I think this is probably the best they are going to get. Even only having to fill a class with 20 kids instead of 32 to run the class would be hugely helpful to keeping some electives and AP classes (although they will be losing many, many teachers and courses either way). |
So you don't think anyone should be moved out of Centreville? |
Expanding Centreville is still a good idea, although something less than 3000 seats would be reasonable. As I said before, CVHS is coming up for a renovation and now is the time to plan ahead. Otherwise CVHS won't get attention from FCPS for another 35-40 years. |
Why would Westfield get a special accommodation when high schools that stand to lose students due to upcoming boundary changes include Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax, South Lakes, Marshall, McLean, Justice, and West Potomac? Or, if the anticipated enrollment (2083) at Westfield is the basis for the suggestion, what about the schools that are projected to have fewer students, which include Herndon, Marshall, South County, Falls Church, South Lakes, Annandale, Mount Vernon, Skyview, and Lewis? |
Were any of those other schools selected by FCPS to lose 700 students in 2 years? I am not familiar with all of the areas. |
I agree, its not the number of students left (albeit absurd and wasteful for such a large building), its losing so many students/teachers/classes in such a short time, all by design by FCPS. Its literally a problem FCPS chose to create for the Westfield students. Its completely different than an overcrowded school like Centreville or Chantilly having students shifted out. |

Sounds like you would prefer if FCPS would just move enough kids back into Westfield to avoid having to fix the mess they are making. A reasonable position. |
Chantilly is slated to lose 600 students over the same period that Westfield might shed 700. They've pulled 400 out of McLean since 2021. Be that as it may, staffing levels are going to be driven by the number of students currently at a school, not how many were there in past years. And none of these schools are likely going to lose all those kids in two years due to boundary changes, given the grandfathering of current HS students with transportation. Further, Skyview will need new teachers, just as some other schools won't be able to support as many. |
