Don't count out Governor DeSantis. Per earlier post, folks will soon learn he's gone back to pronouncing his last name as DeeSantis. (He only used the short-e version (i.e., 'Dih-Santis') to appease liberals, and they didn't reciprocate.) He's staying with same spelling, just pronouncing with with a long-e: DeeSantis. There's a lot of enthusiasm inside the camp for this move.

So the problem with DeSantis is a short 'e' in his name, and not that he comes off as a profoundly weird dude?

Enough with the attacks on Gov. DeSantis. Not long ago, people were routinely using inappropriate terms like dickweed, douchebag, and human repellent to describe him, while failing to offer any substantive policy critiques. It's disappointing to see this kind of behavior still exists. Let's be better.

Agreed, this is a serious and honorable man, and he has devoted his life to public service and we should be more respectful of that.

Sure. Book-banning. So honorable.

JD did have to resign his seat, but he got a couch in return. A plush, velvety one. #passion

Trump fumbled. The obvious pick was Nancy Mace. Attractive, young, and can ace an interview with Charlemagne on The Daily Show, which shows she’s not out of touch like Noem, Haley, etc.

Trump doesn't want someone who will outshine him.

Pretty impressive—he sure knows how to get publicity. “No such thing as bad publicity” Trump and Vance have this concept nailed.

Harris needs to go with a VP who has some actual personality, IMO. Otherwise it will be hard to compete.

Except there is such thing as bad publicity.

Not when people are buying your merch and spreading name recognition.

Most voters can see through the ridiculous focus on couches and whatnot.

The nonsense about couches and whatnot is what brings people in to learn more about him. And then they find out that he is against abortion in the case of rape and incest ("two wrongs don't make a right"), that he thinks people with children should have more votes than people without children, that he "hates police," that he just wants to give Ukraine to Russia, repeats the unfounded accusation that the 2020 election was rigged/stolen, and the list goes on and on.

This. And he won't be able to control himself from making inappropriate comments about Mace or being extra touchy-feely with her.

TBH, I doubt she would say "yes" if Trump asked her. She wouldn't pass the loyalty test.

This is my take. 2014 to 2019 was Black Lives Matter. He was a recent graduate so his peer group was likely a bastion of liberalism. He was talking to a good friend who also likely represented that viewpoint. He was probably trying to bridge common ground with that friend, while reacting with revulsion, like all of us were, to police relations with specific communities. This was a contextualized, private conversation with a friend - why wouldnt he express what the whole country was trying to vocalize and process about police abuses? Maybe later he caveated that he supports police who don't abuse power - but unlikely he needed to since this conversation existed in a context. I'm not a JD Vance supporter at all, but that's my take. Personal email is not a published speech - well, now it is. But doubt he meant it to be

You mean the conversation didn't fall out of a coconut tree?

Trump picked Vance because he is impressed by money above everything, and billionaires Elon Musk and Peter Thiel like and asked him to pick JD Vance.

They will not like it if he fires Vance. Trump needs their $$.

Also Trump looks like a loser if he suddenly dumps him in less than a month of launching him.

What a mess.

Didn't I read somewhere that Peter Thiel has since moved on from Vance?
