4 students in University of Idaho, killed in their home.

The existence of DNA evidence is still just speculation, right? Does anyone have a link to where the police say they have DNA evidence?

As creepy as this guy sounds in the rumour mill, tbe traffic stop footage seems normal. And why would he re-register his car from PA to ID if he wanted to avoid suspicion? If he truely was studying how to commit crime, I'd expect him to be smarter. And getting stopped twice, wouldn't he know he'd been flagged?

This is what I don't get. This supposedly smart criminology PhD student had to suspect that something was up when he was stopped twice in an hour for "tailgating" on a highway, and let go both times with a warning.

I'm guessing he did suspect something was amiss, but what could he do at that point? Zilch.

Agree and add in some grandiosity so he may have realized he was a suspect but thought he could talk his way out of the situation.

The existence of DNA evidence and the use of genetic genealogy was reported (by multiple news outlets) the evening of his arrest. I believe it came from “sources”, not the police directly in an on-the-record statement. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/12/30/us/university-of-idaho-student-killings-investigation/index.html

Because the FBI contacted the Indiana State Police and asked they pull him over to get bodycam footage, specifically of the hands.

Is this conjecture or has it been reported somewhere? Why did they want bodycam footage of his hands?

It’s been reported. They wanted to see if he had any cuts or injuries.

The affadavit is being unsealed now:

one of the roommates saw the killer, cell phone pings show him around the house 12 times, knife sheath was left at the house and some DNA evidence came from the sheath

I wonder if he'll take a plea in exchange for life and no death penalty.

Just wild that he walked by one of the surviving roommates standing in the open doorway of her room.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought he had been smart enough to wear gloves etc.

Really excellent police work per the affadavit.

And they did a great job of keeping it close to the vest despite the public pressure. Kudos to them!

I'm sure he thought they were just bumbling small town cops. If he hadn't left the sheath and driven his own car there he might have gotten away with it too.
