Do you have kids or not?
For some, it's more economical to SAH if they have kids because of the price of childcare... but if you don't have kids, how does that work out? |
| How many couples do you know who don't have kids and the wife doesn't work? They're obviously out there, but this seems like a real outlier situation. I know tons of DINKS. No stay at home wives. |
| At first, in the $100ks, now in the $300ks. Two kids. |
| I make about $100k. But I have a house husband not a housewife. Two kids. |
You must not live in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Potomac, McLean, Great Falls, or the very ritzy sections of DC. |
| 650k. Two kids. I work 20 hours a week for fun. |

60K 10 years ago to 100K today. This is what public scientific research pays when you have a PhD. But thanks to wise investments... we live a decent life. |
| My DH makes about $250,000. Our kids are grown. I have been at home for 26 years. No plans to work outside the home. |
|
At first around $100k, now closer to $200k
Two children currently in college Not enough time before DH retires to resurrect my career |
Yeah, I don't. I live in Dupont Circle. But I have a bunch of friends in NYC, UES mostly, who don't work but they always did at least until they got pregnant. |
2 kids, one tween, one teen. |
| DH just got promoted so now making $140k, but became a SAHM when DS was a year old and DH making $75k. DS is now a teen. Had good investments from when I worked as a lawyer, so we live quite comfortably in McLean. |
What about after you divorce? |
| Seven figures. |
| I’m confused. The OP is very specifically asking about couples with no kids, yet everyone who is responding has kids. |
