I am an Independent. I was a Democrat for many years.
Up until this morning, I was set to cast my vote in November for Gov. Larry Hogan. That is, until I read this interview Hogan gave to the NYT. In short, Hogan's responses to many key and fundamental questions about the current administration are...bone chilling. These are softball questions, that Hogan flat-out missed. It's a bit un-nerving. I don't weigh-in very often on these forums, unless I have something significant and worth your time. This is >> https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/04/opinion/sunday/republicans-donald-trump-larry-hogan.html |
| I skimmed through and thought his answers were appropriate. was there something specific that you consider bone chilling that I may have missed? |
| OP is a drama queen |
Hogan quotes: "One on one, he’s a different person than the persona you see out there. But I don’t like the tweeting. I don’t like the name-calling. The divisiveness really is not good for the country. But he’s not the only one to blame." "Whether I like what’s going on, the people overwhelmingly elected him as president." Hogan was asked, In what ways do you think he’s doing the most damage? "I wish he would stop tweeting." Is it adult behavior? Hogan: "That’s a tough one." On the administration's proposed Muslim ban: "It really wasn’t impacting our state. There wasn’t a single person at B.W.I. Airport who was detained...My job as governor isn’t to go out and lead protest marches." "I guess that at the time, it didn’t rise to the point where it was something I thought I should weigh in on." Lots and lots more. Please reserve some time (this weekend) to really read the piece. Too important to skim, IMO. Thx |

Makes me like him more. His job IS to focus on MD. What specifically are you concerned about OP?
I’m a democrat but there is nothing in the world that would make me vote for a Berniecrat. |
I'm a guy, so drama king? Let's leave the name-calling to the POTUS. We can be adults, here. I hope you were able to read the op ed interview. |
| His Beltway evasions are what are holding me back. Really NO homes are to be taken? Can we have that in writing plz. |
I pulled a few quotes from the interview and posted them in a response, above. I understand that Jealous is not ideal in many ways, but at least he shows us who he really is. Hogan is down-right deceptive. Also, I don't agree with him that the most damaging thing the POTUS is doing right now is his tweeting fetish. |
Independent here, and these quotes make me like Hogan even more. He knows what his job is, and does it well, regardless of party affiliation. OP, you sound more of a hysterical Democrat than an actual Independent...just my 2 cents. |
| Definitely 100% voting for Governor Hogan. |
How about his crappy record on education? Sure expand the Beltway, but let's not make that a priority when there are elementary school classes with 30 kids, 1 teacher and no aide. And don't get me started about his micromanaging of school calendars that should be left for local control. |

Democrat and 100% voting for Hogan. I thought his answers were good. He is a Republican after all, he doesn't have to rebuke the President as strongly as we wished he would. He has to focus on MD which I think he has done and will continue to do.
I would vote for him if he ran for President. |
Yeah sure, focus on your own job when religious bigotry is being codified into law. Worked great for the Germans. |
Actually, I believe your "2 cents" is an attempt to distract from the fact that Hogan is more conservative than he lets on. I know many democrats will agree. Governors are leaders, not only in their respective states. In other words, no state has an absolute firewall from the federal laws. As for your "independent" status, nice try. |
Jealous's views on the Kirwan Commission report, if implemented, would be far, far more damaging that anything Hogan has done re education (and I *hate* the school schedule meddling). |
