Gov. Larry Hogan on Friday ruled out involving the Maryland State Police in any investigation of allegations that U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl more than 30 years ago in Montgomery County.

The Republican governor was asked at a news conference about a letter Democratic state Sen. Cheryl Kagan of Montgomery sent him. She urged Hogan to take the step because the White House has not ordered the FBI to look into the allegations made by Christine Blasey Ford about Kavanaugh’s actions at a high school party.

Hogan said he had not heard about the request, but he immediately turned it down.

“The Maryland State Police will not be getting involved in this,” he said. Hogan did not elaborate on his reasons.

Because it’s not State Police responsibility. It’s MoCo. Try your smears on less educated people like yourself.

And the very next paragraph below what you quoted says:

Spokesmen for state and county police said Friday they would not investigate unless they received a complaint — which they said has not happened. State police also said that, in any case, they have an agreement with county police that means local officials investigate such crimes in their jurisdiction.

You very selectively quoted the article to spin this so that Hogan looks like he's playing partisan politics. But in fact, it's the opposite. Hogan is staying out of partisan politics by focusing on running the state of MD and not sticking his nose into national politics. Hogan may have discussed the issue with the MD State Police Chief, found out the policy and just made the blanket statement above.

In any event, I agree with Hogan that the appointment of a SCJ has nothing to do with MD State. If the victim in a crime wants to open the case, she can contact the appropriate jurisdictional police force (in this case Montgomery County Police) and open the investigation. But the MD State Police do not get into a crime in another police force's jurisdiction unless they are asked to step in.

I didn’t post anything false, but thank you for being precise.

Regardless, here again, Hogan has shown himself to be a coward in the face of trump’s actions against Maryland and its residents.

Say what? I am all for paying my share but at 9% we are already high. MoCo is at the top of the county tax rates (and is getting that on higher average incomes). Now that state taxes are no longer deductible higher rates have even more of an impact. If MD taxes go higher I will change my residence to my second home state and them MD/MoCo loses all of it. We are 1%ers, so I'm sure Jealous would be happy to see us go.

+1 Marylanders may want to convince themselves that Hogan is a Democrat in disguise but he has refused to speak out against the Muslim ban and in fact removed the requests of those who wanted him to say something publicly from his public webpage (and got sued by the ACLU for doing so.)

Posters like the original PP and the one not accepting reality that low income first gen immigrant esol students will be correlated with lower average test scores are really making jealous voters and progressive Dems look stupid

After reading this thread I lean towards voting for Hogan even though I don't like his beltway plan

I'm worried we are going to lose our high income Moco residents with policies from jealous and elrich. Won't vote for either as a demo

That being said, I'm expecting a child and might benefit from universal pre k.

What do people think? Some in this thread are opposed to it, but I'm curious about it

Is anyone watching the debate? Jealous is very disappointing.

He came across as pugnacious and rude. Painting Hogan as Trump’s puppet was a mistake.

He kept mentioning Trump, trying to tie the two together, but most know Hogan is not aligned with Trump.

Anybody who thinks that is already voting for Jealous. Anyone remotely undecided is probably not going to find that persuasive.

Thanks for posting. Also agree that the MD State Police should not be involved.

What cuts is trump proposing to the Bay? Is he going to make it smaller? Shallower? What's he doing with that surplus water?
