To the pp's quote above: " Q: Do you believe that every president should make a commitment unequivocally and resolutely to the peaceful transfer of power? Amy Coney Barrett: (02:21:42) Well, Senator, that seems to me to be pulling me in a little bit into this question of whether the president has said that he would not peacefully leave office. And so to the extent that this is a political controversy right now, as a judge, I want to stay out of it and I don’t want to express a view on." Pathetic. |
| I am a liberal, never-Trump lawyer who thinks the Democratic senators have done a terrible job in this hearing. It’s utterly ridiculous to keep pointing out that ACB is nothing like RBG. There are plenty of things to press her on: what the 2nd Amendment meant at the time it was written (spoiler alert: not semi-automatic assault rifles), how to reconcile her previous statement that Garland shouldn’t be confirmed during an election year, and others. But to whine about policy and to complain to her that she holds a judicial philosophy different from RBG just adds fuel to the GOP’s fire. |
+1 Agree. She dismissed Harris handily. |
But she doesn't know the First Amendment. Mmmhmmm. |
|
No. It is not. It is the foundational basis for ALL subsequent right to privacy basis. A pillar of substantive due process. Both of which are anathema to Originalists. |
| Good for Lindsey Graham. Great statement. |
| Here comes Dogma Dianne. |
Did he ask her about the First Amendment too? |
| ACB is eating democrat lunch at the hearing. You ladies should be embarrassed. |
Why? We know the liberties protected by the First Amendment. Unlike ACB. |
Well, certainly not “Democratic” intellect. None has been on display. DP |
I bet the Democrats know which freedoms the First Amendment protects tho. |
Really! So all the Democrats who kept bringing up the petition she signed at her church re: abortion weren’t asking about her personal faith? Interesting! |
