| I don't know the process. Could someone please explain to me how Supreme Court nomination confirmation process works and if they'll be able to go through with it? |
|
Its cancelled, gone, finito.
The SCOTUS nominee would need to appear in-person before the Senate Judiciary committee for hearings for a minimum of two weeks. We still don't have confirmation that Amy Coney Barrett and/or her family members aren't currently quarantined for 14 days due to exposure to up 7 Covid-19 positives at the Rose Garden ceremony. On top of that 2 of the GOP Senators on the Judiciary Committee are Covid-19 positive (Tillis and Lee) - so in a vote of 10 Republicans against 10 Democrats and 2 independents to pass the contentious nomination out of hearings the GOP just lost TWO key votes. So they don't have the numbers to get her to a vote. No hearings starting ASAP also means the Senate is blocked from voting for Barrett in its entirety because they're all going on recess in the two-week period before the election. McSally, a Senate hopeful, is tipped to win in the 2020 elections as well so that means post-election the Senate would not vote her through to SCOTUS. So...no confirmation. No SCOTUS Covid Amy. |
| Graham is holding "virtual" hearings and Mitch called the Senate back for floor votes for the 19th. |
| Virtual hearings or virtual votes? |
| Do they have quarantine for 2 weeks from the moment of positive test? What if they still test positive in a week? Does the countdown restart? |
It is entirely possible there are GOP senators who are stuck in quarantine and not able to vote in person on the 19th. It is entirely possible someone like Grassley gets COVID and is incapacitated. The idea that the Senate or more specifically, McConnell, would call the Senate to do this instead of, you know, passing a COVID bill to keep our economy afloat is all we really need to know. |
| When are they supposed to go on recess? |
Yes, now he wants Schumer to agree to 2 week suspension of Senate business, except the judiciary committee will continue working on the ACB confirmation. Sure, Jan. |
|
"Lee, in a statement, said he would quarantine for 10 days and be back in time for the committee's work."
What an a-hole. He tested positive and I don't see how he's not contagious 10 days later. |
In 9 days
They're screwed |
| If they keep calling like dominoes there won't be enough votes in the GOP side. Three already. Who knows, print More. |
Falling not calling. |
I hope Schumer tells him to dream on. |
Pass the HEROES Act turtle face and we'll talk. |
