I agree with you. This is horrific. I am pro-choice and I honestly do NOT believe Barrett poses any kind of risk in overturning Roe or in limiting abortion access. She has sworn an oath to fairly interpret the law. She has done that so far and I believe she will continue to do so.

The problem is originalist judicial philosophy. According this philosophy, the law is determined directly from the text of the Constitution and the implied rights that Roe was based on don't exist. So in her own mind, she can overturn Roe and be faithful to the law at the same time. I think Gorsuch, Alito, Thomas and Kavanaugh are on the same page. Roberts shares the philosophy, but seems less willing to go against past precedent.

Actually, she has done no such thing. Her opinions from the bench exhibit a Venn coincidence of 1.0 with the comprehensive religious views of her People of Praise cult, which has issued “guidance” on every feature of public policy and private life. She does not deviate from the “guidance” ever, to any degree, on any issue on which “guidance” has been issued. And her judicial opinions are as pedestrian as her very thin legal background and her brief, limited, unimpressive “career” in actual legal practice, most of which was spent working as a junior associate on Bush v Gore.

Overturning or otherwise limiting Roe v. Wade as much as possible has been the explicit platform of most of the Republican Party for about 40 years. They also are extremely disingenuous about it, as shown in the above quote. If she decides against Roe v. Wade, she will not say, "it's my personal opinion" and she will not say, "I can't change it, I am just an appellate judge," She will say, "Roe was wrongly decided, we reverse today because we can do that, Constitution blah, blah..." Roe has been intact for 50 years because there weren't 5 justices who had both the desire and legal (not personal) opinions to do it. Until today. And the states that want reversal are already lining up their cases.
