Out of all the things to post about with this tragic case… I’m from Santa Barbara. Their housing situation was not unique. |
Their housing situation combined with his weird political/religious rants combined with a Covid baby combined with his complete lack of income for 18 months (surfing instructor while CA beaches were closed) could explain his spiraling mindset. |
I don’t think all beaches were closed for all of the 18 months.
Also he may have been on UI. The question was about the wife though! |
I think she was protecting him - as simple as that. He took the kids on Saturday and she called the police on Saturday. But she specified in the call that she didn’t think he was a threat to the kids. She clearly didn’t want him arrested. So I’m guessing it’ll come out in court that she knew he was having issues throughout the year but hadn’t realized how bad it was. |
The kids were alive until Monday. Maybe if she had stated he was a threat, they would have put out a high-level Amber Alert and caught him sooner. |
So it’s totally cool for the QAnon to push these conspiracy theories? That lizard people are taking over the planet? They are all crazy/brainwashed to believe any of it. |
Supporting Trump and mental illness, at this point, are the same thing. |
Again, STOP blaming the mom when it's the dad who killed the kids and deserves the blame. Dad violently killed his kids. Not mom. |
This. Did it occur to you that she did not think they were in harm's way because a mother doesn't WANT to think her kids are in harm's way? The human brain has defense mechanisms for self protection. |
Yes in Santa Barbara. It's known. |
I’m from Southern California. Lots of white middle class people I grew up with have been utterly priced out from the region. They are by no means poor, but if you have a SAH spouse and one parent making $100K, you really can’t afford to buy anything within 15 miles of the coast that’s safe and sizable enough to raise a family.
It’s especially tough if you grew up near the beach in a modest post-war house and always dreamt of giving your own children the same childhood experience. So you rent a house you can never afford to buy. Their rental was a few blocks from the beach, which is pretty important for someone who runs a surf business. I know so many families who look just like the Coleman’s - white, good looking, Christian, enmeshed in the beach culture, a few cute kids on social media - who can’t buy anything. It’s a constant point of anxiety and marital stress. |
This is my read as well. |
White people problems. |
All people problems. I know lots of minorities absolutely obsessed with a housing bubble for this very reason. They too are priced out...often with lower buying parity as well (though most don't choose a ridiculous field like surfing instruction to raise a family on). |
Those whackjob California liberals won't even put him to death. |
