First of all, OP, lots of trans people have written and spoken up about this. Opinions vary. Just do a bit of research on it. This might be part of why PP who isn’t white got tired of answering the AA v Black question. People had already written and spoke in depth on the topic but then white came up to them and asked for an explanation from the top, perhaps in bad faith. It’s not easy and it’s time consuming to hash out things like this and it’s more respectful just to look at what has already been said.

Second, it is actually important to remember that not everybody who menstruates is a woman because there are people across the gender spectrum who need access to what we call “women’s healthcare.” We need to make sure everybody who needs it has access to birth control, Pap smears, tampons, etc., and when we say those things are foe women it is actually a barrier for men and non-binary people to have access as well.

Everyone who needs these services is a biological woman. That’s what “women” refers to. Trans men and non-binary people are aware they were born as biological women, right? I’m not sure what the issue is with using “women” for what we all know means “biological women.”

…con’t…

I guess it seems that activists are creating a problem just so they can solve it. Are there trans men or non-binary who don’t realize “women’s medical services” are for them?

Yes exactly this, PP. They are very aware of biology and gender and everything else. Do they really not know they need pap smears just because of "exclusionary" language?

Exactly. Thank you. I was wondering what I’m missing here. As I said, I think this language issue is being created just so activists have something to champion.

That’s rich coming from someone championing “concern”.

I think some people saw the term “people with a cervix” somewhere and then started a hyperbolic tirade against “SJWs”. Disregarding reason, context, and scale.

My first post in this thread is above saying everyone who needs these services is a bio woman. I’m not who you are assuming I am.

That said, I think a lot of you activists like starting fires just so you can put them out. You revel in the controversy and anger. It’s really unfortunate.

Lol. Who started this thread?

What’s your point? I don’t see anything angry or controversial in the OP. That came later…with you.

OP here, thank you. I'm so tired of trying to explain and defend myself and convince that poster that I was sincere with my question. I have even apologized if my wording was somehow offensive and they still think I'm some privileged disrespectful jerk just posting a "concern". And to answer their question again, I have read every comment and have appreciated the ones that answered my question even the ones that disagreed. There was a spouse whose husband is transgender and they posted their opinion regarding language and I was glad for their input. And I wasn't just looking for certain answers but I had my personal opinion on the matter and that's ok. We are allowed to disagree and the whole point of discussions is to hear different perspectives. That sanctimonious attitude is very off putting and is why discussions on these topics are so challenging.

Discussions are also challenging for the reasons outlined by 09:12. Did you even read that post?

Take some responsibility for your actions. You are not a victim here.

You people are crazy and overreacting. Seriously just move on.

There was a poster here that was wishing death upon another poster at one point but Jeff deleted the posts. So yes there is a lot of crazy and overreacting on here.

I wonder if the death wish poster is the same poster labeling everything a "concern" unless Jeff banned them which hopefully he did. I didn't agree with the post they were replying to but wishing death on someone is really messed up.

So you didn’t get banned after all. I agree being transphobic is gross and wrong and posts should be reported. However wishing death upon individuals or a group of people is sick. I have read some disturbing awful things directed towards women who disagree with things. JK Rowling said she received hundreds of death and rape threats. Violence and threats of violence are never the answer and will only hinder the cause not progress it.

Interesting how you are more concerned about those threats than the threats - and actual physical violence - against transgender people.

Message received.

What message did you receive exactly? Violence against transgender people wasn't the topic of the post. It was specifically discussing violence and threats against women since an unhinged poster on here was wishing death upon another poster. So because it wasn't mentioned then you jump to the conclusion that it is deemed less important?

Anonymous wrote:NP. Genuine question. Is it transphobic to not want to be called a menstruator? Or to say that I want to be called a mother, not a breeder or a birther? I do not care if other people call themselves those terms. But I don't want them applied to me, because they are dehumanizing.

I would like to learn more about this. I genuinely don't want to be transphobic. But I also hate these terms being propagated. I'm a mother not a birther, I'm not a menstruator (and what happens when I hit menopause?), especially because there aren't equivalents applied to biological men. It feels like very old rehashed misogyny, where biological women are only valued for the sum of their body parts.

This breeder, menstruator, birthing person shit is absolutely ridiculous. That CNN article that was posted above really turned me off. If that crap becomes mainstream, I’ll be livid.

I agree that it’s dehumanizing.

It’s hard to believe that you’re not a troll if your post uses SJW, “cancel”, “woke”, or mentions JK Rowling. See the second post of the thread.

I’m tired of the instigation that’s going on here. It’s just post after post designed to divide people. Almost as if the posts are designed by the extremist right to try to get Americans to hate each other.

The problem is you just assume people are trolls because you disagree. There are a lot of topics surrounding transgender issues and if someone wants to discuss something stop assuming it is in bad faith or they’re transphobic. That is what is causing the divide. The inability to discuss these issues without people freaking out. A couple previous posts were about inclusive language. Those posters should be allowed to bring up their concerns just like the poster in the beginning of the thread saying why that language is important to them. If you don’t want to engage in the conversation then leave the thread.

And it completely marginalized adoptive mothers. We have a term for biological woman, it’s women. You can be a trans woman. If you find the term trans women offensive, it has nothing to do with women and everything to do with your own misogyny.

m

And notice one of those posters started off her thread saying she genuinely did not want to be transphobic before listing her issue with inclusive language? It’s sad we have to preface anything with a statement like that because we know the mob on here will descend on posters who disagree because in their minds it must be because they hate transgender people. Women can’t even discuss their issues or discomfort with trans women in locker rooms because of course they must be transphobic so all the posts get deleted.

DP. I assume people are posting in bad faith when they post in bad faith.

OP has completely ignored any post that doesn’t support her opinion.

She stirred the pot (including the blatant anti-trans bigots) and was pushing to get one outcome. She wasn’t looking for a discussion. Bad faith.

You all need to watch Blair White's video below on Youtube where she is discussing this topic. Blaire White is a transwoman and a popular youtuber with almost a million followers. Since you are hell bent on thinking everything posted is in bad faith maybe listen to what she has to say and read the over 7,000 comments including many comments from transgender people.
