I see that word getting thrown around so much it is losing its meaning. The problem is any meaningful discussion around trans issues is quickly shut down if someone expresses an opinion or concern that doesn’t align with gender ideology. Anyone paying attention can see what a problem this is.

Just going to ignore all of the blatant anti-trans posts on this thread, are we?

There's a difference between being a transphobic a hole purposely attacking transgender people vs voicing your opinion and concerns. There were posters on here discussing the topic of transwomen in changing rooms and every single post got deleted. I have seen posts deleted in other threads when this particular topic comes up. Not wanting to be called dehumanizing terms like menstruator and cervix haver also does not make a person transphobic and a bigot. Even acknowledging biological reality gets people called names. Everyone is so easily offended and it's ridiculous you can't have meaningful conversations on this topic without it always reverting to name calling and nastiness. There was one crazy poster that was literally wishing death upon another poster in this thread until Jeff deleted it. Absolutely report and have Jeff delete the truly transphobic posts that do unfortunately pop up but it's annoying to assume everyone is a bigot for not agreeing.

How about the posts that are more subtle, including the “concerned” posts?

I haven’t seen any name calling that wasn’t warranted.

How about stop assuming everyone is transphobic and a bigot and is just being subtle about it with their posts. This is exactly the problem I am talking about. Why are you so threatened by any conversation regarding transgender issues? The reason I like this website is because I enjoy reading different points of views whether I agree with them or not. This topic should be no different.

NP. Genuine question. Is it transphobic to not want to be called a menstruator? Or to say that I want to be called a mother, not a breeder or a birther? I do not care if other people call themselves those terms. But I don't want them applied to me, because they are dehumanizing.

Let’s just say that if someone starts out the post talking about “SJCs” then it’s not likely a sincere “concern”.

OP here, if you are suggesting that I'm transphobic for simply asking the transgender community their personal opinions regarding the current trend of things being pushed you are very wrong. My question wasn't even posing as a "concern" so I don't know what you are talking about. I only asked the question because I've read comments from some transgender people that they don't care about some of the silly stuff like language changes and they just want to live their lives in peace without discrimination. I was just curious if they were in the minority feeling that way or not. You seriously need to stop acting like every question or comment is based in hate or bigotry. Notice how in many comments people start of by saying something like "I believe transgender people have the right to transition" or "I don't think they should be discriminated against" and then go on to discuss an issue they have? It's because everyone is afraid of being called transphobic for saying the wrong thing.

First of all, OP, lots of trans people have written and spoken up about this. Opinions vary. Just do a bit of research on it. This might be part of why PP who isn’t white got tired of answering the AA v Black question. People had already written and spoke in depth on the topic but then white came up to them and asked for an explanation from the top, perhaps in bad faith. It’s not easy and it’s time consuming to hash out things like this and it’s more respectful just to look at what has already been said.

Second, it is actually important to remember that not everybody who menstruates is a woman because there are people across the gender spectrum who need access to what we call “women’s healthcare.” We need to make sure everybody who needs it has access to birth control, Pap smears, tampons, etc., and when we say those things are foe women it is actually a barrier for men and non-binary people to have access as well.

Everyone who needs these services is a biological woman. That’s what “women” refers to. Trans men and non-binary people are aware they were born as biological women, right? I’m not sure what the issue is with using “women” for what we all know means “biological women.”

…con’t…

I guess it seems that activists are creating a problem just so they can solve it. Are there trans men or non-binary who don’t realize “women’s medical services” are for them?

Lol no I’m talking about from people who facilitate those services, like making sure that gynecologists are educated about men needing care and how to treat their trans patients, organizations should look into offering tampons in both men and women’s bathroom (and preferably have a gender neutral bathroom available but that’s a different story), any time somebody does an information campaign about a gynecological issue, trans men should be informed as well (like the importance of yearly Pap smears).

“Women” is not a substitute for “biological woman,” and “biological woman” is not a gender-affirming label. It is just another way of calling a man a woman. It’s best to just use trans man, we all know what that what that means.

Yes exactly this, PP. They are very aware of biology and gender and everything else. Do they really not know they need pap smears just because of "exclusionary" language?

I don’t do that. And haven’t seen that done here.

If many of your posts have been called out for being transphobic there is likely a reason…

Why did you use the term SJW?

It’s possible. This is what I have heard from trans people. I do not know of anybody in this situation but if somebody wants to say “people who mensturate” instead of “woman” I am not going to have a problem with it.

Yes. That is a factual term that doesn’t diminish my powers of menstruation.

Some of this language like "people with cervixes" is becoming sufficiently esoteric that I wonder about recent immigrants with low English proficiency actually understanding that this applies to them (versus just understanding the word woman). So from an inclusivity and SJW and health care outreach perspective, there are others to think of as well.

Also, none of this is in a vacuum. Menstruation is not a random thing that happens to random people. It's part of the history of women being treated differently (red tent, etc) and girls dropping out of school where they don't have supplies and bathroom privacy (like rural India), it's all part of the patriarchy and where that comes from. So yes language matters, in terms of who is really affected by all these issues (pregnancy, birth control, abortion, etc.)
