Relax? Me? I'm not the person who jumped on a kid who just made his professional debut and, instead of applauding or celebrating, decided to rip his performance on the basis of one stat, revealing not only your ignorance of soccer, but your mean and spiteful character as well. Good grief. Fix your problems, whatever they are. |

Re: MLS Next digging into the Arlington talent pool I will say this. 1. The one thing Arlington has no shortage of at this age group is really good talent. 2. I would be cautious about jumping from a club with a long-standing tradition of churning out really good players to a brand new hyper-competitive league. SYC’s MLS Next tryouts were an unfettered S-show and my understanding is Alexandria didn’t draw a whole lot of talent outside their red and white teams. And the one thing I can assure you is that SYC and Alexandria didn’t get the selections right this first go. So kids are getting it in their mind that they want to leave. Let them play and nurture a love of the game. There is so much pressure to find something better and from what I’ve seen, Arlington is a great program with really great coaches. Not without faults of course, but the more you look around the more you realize every club has issues. |
You don't have to badmouth MLS Next clubs' tryouts simply because you did not get an offer. Having more options is good for players, there is no need to attack other clubs to make yourself feel better about your club. |
Are you new to the club or existing Arlington family? |
Congratulations. How do you know SYC and Alexandria didn't get their selections right this first go? |
Went for tryouts and didn’t get an offer. |
| I am not the PP, and I don't have a good grasp on what the talent level that tried out elsewhere is, but we were concerned about the substitutions rules for MLS Next. Seems like it could encourage some kids not getting played much. |
And how does the poster know that kids are already thinking of leaving? Huh? Just an enormous pile of steaming bs. |
|
It is not because Alexandria and SYC are better, it is because players think things could be different.
In reality, they are the same. |
Honestly I cannot follow what you are saying. But it’s been a long day so maybe just me. In any event congrats. |

I don't think he/she is badmouthing the clubs and I really don't understand why that would be your first thought... what they were saying is there was a ton of kids there. SYC ran their MLS Next tryouts and their Academy tryouts at the same time on the same fields with all the same kids. From everything I've heard there were easily over 200 kids out there and this isn't the first time I have heard the term "S-show" used to describe the scene.
Thanks for posting and congrats to your boy. |
PP said that nobody showed up at Alexandria tryouts other than kids from Alexandria lower teams, which I find hard to believe. PP also described SYC tryouts with the s word and said that the coaches got their selections wrong. These were pretty negative things to say. |
This is absolutely true and that's why Alexandria's MLS Next team also plays CCL so that the kids that didn't get much or any playing time in the MLS Next match, they can get time in the CCL match. I wouldn't be surprised if some kids on the MLS Next roster get barely any time in those games. |
That is not what the person said! The red and white teams are the top two Alexandria teams. |
They were scheduled until 10pm on a school night for current 12-year olds (2008). I think right there you are going to limit who comes out, especially if they live any distance from the field. |
