There’s no MoCo mandate. My in-home informed us that the new guidelines state that masks are not compulsory for 2 year olds if the kid won’t wear them. |
| Regardless of all our pontificating on masks-on-toddlers, of course you can ask for your deposit back. I doubt they’ll give it back to you but you can certainly ask. |
Legit question- how did OP’s daycare get reported & run into issues with the county if there’s no mandate? If there was no mandate, OP’s daycare wouldn’t have an issue and OP wouldn’t have posted this issue. |
Just because someone at the county said something does not make it true. I’d be curious to know *who* exactly the daycare was informed by. The county department of health? Or the licensing specialist, who is actually employed by the state? |
No, but they can make it so they can’t operate in-county and have to relocate out. |
How? That doesn't make any sense. Plus isn't the county planning to defer to all the state guidelines soon anyway? |
False. It’s just theater. The county does not have authority over the state. |
| OP, I get it. It is absolutely idiotic and ridiculous that a 2 year old has to wear a mask. So glad I'm in a county where that's not a requirement. So damn laughable. |
Stop. I direct a childcare center in DC. Our 2s and older wear masks. Yes, it took about 1.5 months in September to get the 2s used to them. But they are good at it now. And, we CHANGE THEM when they get wet or yucky. So a child goes through 2 or 3 a day. We don't leave them in wet masks! Yes, some children chew on them but those kids change them more often. Seriously. I want kids to be out of masks. I want ME to be out of a mask. So get vaccinated yourself. Get your 12 year olds and older get vaccinated. And when the 2s and up can get vaccinated then get them vaccinated. |
This isn't even new. The guidance to child care centers in Montgomery County was always just to try to get >2 yo to wear masks, but not to force it if the kids aren't developmentally ready to wear masks appropriately. The whole idea of 2 year olds wearing masks in MoCo will go away on May 28th when the county terminates its health order. The state always had its mask order start at age 5. And both have had exceptions. |
If a kid is chewing/sucking on a mask, then the mask is a greater danger than a help. If the masks don't fit snugly around the mouth, then they're not stopping droplets. If the masks constantly fall under the kids noses, then they're not doing much. Any of those sound familiar? Because that's what I see at my kid's daycare every single day. |
I don’t think it’s going away though because, per their website update, the county still strongly recommends masks for the unvaccinated. Our daycare recently sent a covid update and said they intend to follow the county/cdc recommendation to keep all kids 2+ masked inside and outside. No word on why they choose to ignore the state guidance. I wish they’d at least get rid of the mask requirement outside and have said so, but they cling to the county and cdc rec. Definitely makes me wish I had enrolled my younger child elsewhere. |
I would be surprised that school will send out a note saying that all vaccinated parents can be massless when they drop off or pick up their kids at the front of daycare center even state/county allow it. Bad role model for kids. And, I don’t think they will allow parents to go into building this summer because they cannot risk any sort of possible outbreak and they are not going to check vaccination card. |

The % positive rates and case numbers are also way way down in the region. If cases continue to fall like they have been, continuing to require masks for kids will be silly.
Honestly though I'll get my 2 year old vaccinated as soon as they approve it too. |
PP here- no problem with ongoing door dropoff and requirement for parents to be masked at dropoff. My issue is continuging to require masks on the kids while playing outside. I partly blame the CDC for this because they don't seem to realize how many institutions hang on their every word, but it also makes me question the daycare's judgement and knowledge of child development in a way it hadn't pre-pandemic. There was another issue recently too where the teachers/driector didn't seem to realize something was wrong with my DC and I think it's because she's so muffled through the mask. |
