No way do you get your deposit back. If it's a county mandate, ask the county for your money back! Then get a nanny. I work in a child care center and guess what? The 2 year olds have learned to wear masks.
PP is right. It is a county mandate. If you feel that strongly about “no masks in preschools,” then your best bet is to contact your county (whoever is making these decisions) or even the CDC and propose/speak up/lobby that they change the rules. Montgomery County mandates 2 and up. CDC mandates 2 and up. Maryland mandates 5 and up. Virginia mandates 5 and up. The other posters wrote that DC mandates 2 and up. If your daycare is in Montgomery County, then the daycare must follow county rules. If enough people disagree with the Montgomery County mandate and speak up, then perhaps the county may change their standpoint and mandates. If you choose to send your kid to a daycare in this county or jurisdiction, he or she will likely have to wear a mask wherever they go. Otherwise, you can move or drive to a daycare in Virginia or another county in Maryland where there is no such mandate -or- hire a nanny. I personally agree with the Montgomery County/DC mandate that preschoolers should be masked when indoors since they are not vaccinated and there are so many new variants that are more contagious.
There’s no MoCo mandate. My in-home informed us that the new guidelines state that masks are not compulsory for 2 year olds if the kid won’t wear them.
This isn't even new. The guidance to child care centers in Montgomery County was always just to try to get >2 yo to wear masks, but not to force it if the kids aren't developmentally ready to wear masks appropriately. The whole idea of 2 year olds wearing masks in MoCo will go away on May 28th when the county terminates its health order. The state always had its mask order start at age 5. And both have had exceptions.
I don’t think it’s going away though because, per their website update, the county still strongly recommends masks for the unvaccinated. Our daycare recently sent a covid update and said they intend to follow the county/cdc recommendation to keep all kids 2+ masked inside and outside. No word on why they choose to ignore the state guidance. I wish they’d at least get rid of the mask requirement outside and have said so, but they cling to the county and cdc rec. Definitely makes me wish I had enrolled my younger child elsewhere.
I would be surprised that school will send out a note saying that all vaccinated parents can be massless when they drop off or pick up their kids at the front of daycare center even state/county allow it. Bad role model for kids. And, I don’t think they will allow parents to go into building this summer because they cannot risk any sort of possible outbreak and they are not going to check vaccination card.
