Ah yes, because ONLY DC parents pay taxes. I'd wager the 1% pays most of the teacher salaries, as in not us. So you can move but it won't change anything for teachers, it's weird that people keep bringing up their salaries like they are planning to do some crazy 'we are leaving' movement together to somehow lower teacher pay. Life keeps moving on without us. |
Ah yes, cause teachers go around killing POC. Totally the same. And what many of these cities have in common is an incompetent school system, of course you're going to pay when teachers were previously angry. You don't want to risk your life for that. And I'm talking about March 2020- Nov 2020, not now. |
Wow. Way to deliberately miss the point. No one is equating the job of law enforcement with the job of teachers. The point was that unions protect their members, often at the expense of the public interest. I agree these cities all have incompetent school systems. They've also been run by politicians the same party for decades -- the same party that is beholden to unions for $$ and votes. |
Why talk about 2020? That time is past and those opportunities are lost. So let’s talk about now. Why aren’t more DCPS schools, esp MSs and HSs, open now? |
| why is there an assumption that the accommodations teachers have requested and/or received are not valid? |
| Hard to tell without data. Will DCPS/DCPCS and the WTU release data to the public? How many teachers are claiming ADA? |
| As a teacher, I wish I had known there was an option to say no to IPL. I’m in the building while the principal’s favorites are home. |
| There will be layoffs. Looks like 12,000 fewer students in lottery this year. And that certainly isn't because all the parents are so satisfied with their current schools. Less students, less money to school, less teachers needed. |
If it is valid I am VERY concerned by the health of the teachers at my school since a majority of them our virtual teaching. |
+1 |
| On my kid’s team at Deal 80% of the teachers are back. Now my kid doesn’t get to actually see all of them but that’s a different thread... |
Oh, you can still get an ADA. We all can. That is my point. Everyone can qualify for these bogus ADAs. The folks with integrity are not trying game the system. |
I don't feel sorry for you though. But I can empathize with a f*cker for an admin. Mine only forced 2 teachers to return and that was because those grade just had way too may parents for us to say no. I am back too but I volunteered because it's the right thing to do for my kids. Been in perso for months and no covid cases. |

With very little exception---
-decent teachers have returned. The total and complete duds are still at home. There are two teachers in my kid's elementary school who are known for being horrendous. They have phoned it in for YEARS. Of course, they are both refusing to come in. In the middle school---of my kid's 6 teachers---the 4 strong ones are back. The mediocre one is not. The horrendous one (who doesn't grade until the last day of each quarter, who plain old doesn't show up for classes every 10 days or so) is of course refusing to come in. |
| If they fired everyone who is refusing to come back, the quality of the entire system would markedly increase. There is almost a 1:1 correlation with incompetence. |
