Correct, and it boils down to what is your clubs Director or coach doing to support your child to be seen? If that Director is lazy and doesn’t have the connections to get you seen and help with making your child’s portfolio enticing or they can’t get that D1 college solidified for your player then that’s not a club you want your kid at. As a parent I would be looking at current club commits and compare. Ask yourself why hasn’t the majority of the team committed, to what top colleges have those girls been able to break into. It’s really seeing how committed the program is to the girls in the program. This happens by getting the players seen, pushing them to the NTC to build there portfolios and developing a great training program that is fast paced to support their development for when they are seen. Again, we can say all we want but FCV 04 class just proved how great Bobby is at getting those girls seen and recruited. Plus everyone wants to say that FCV has a big influence at getting those girls seen for the NTC, this is true however another club in the area has one of the biggest influences on it as well and for some reason that hasn’t helped that club in the slightest. My point? Go where there’s proof of commitments and getting girls to the next level. |
Beating up on bad competition, game film that gives a false sense of how good players are. Easier to be recruited during Covid via film when you are playing against weak teams |
Or maybe it shows the connections they have that surrounding Directirs don’t. Building a portfolio for the top players on each 04 team shouldn’t be hard, there’s so many opportunities to showcase those top players on each team, the true question is why haven't surrounding clubs done anything to promote those players making them more desirable. It’s one of two things, either you don’t have the connections or you are to lazy of Coach to see how important this was for those players. Either way as a parent that speaks volumes. |
Excuses, Covid showed who has those top connections. Colleges listen to those they trust. Of course the player has to deliver but with a flick of a wrist any coach should be able to advocate for their player, make a phone call and have a profound impact on the DDs recruiting experience, especially now through Covid. |
| Geez, 7 pages of crowing about college placements this year from FCV. Somebody got a bit worked up on Easter Sunday. Do you need a hug? |
| Furthermore, these commitment numbers mean nothing. My DD's team has 3 girls who received offers from somewhat big name D1 schools (William & Mary, NC State and UNC Wilmington) and all have turned the offer down for smaller D3 schools they prefer to attend due to their education focus and areas of study - and will now likely be stars on their college team too vs. watch soccer for 4 years. There are so many variables like this across the teams that you can't even look at accurate numbers and understand the real story (and these commitment numbers are not accurate). |
Those aren’t Big D1 schools. Middle of the pack at best and yes the commitment numbers are correct. |
No coach, just pointing out that you can’t do your job affectively. Directors get a ridiculous amount of money to showcase there talent and it’s clear that no DMV teams around the area have done that. FCVRising |
| I don’t have a dog in this fight but usually when something elicits this much hate against it, it must be doing something well. If success is placing players to D1 schools then FCV does have a good track record it’s hard to dispute. They are going downhill and their past success is over is what competitors always say about those they want to unseat. It’s all just talk until it happens. I just don’t get why so much time is spent on this message board over these pissing matches. |
| Maybe those offers to the “Big D1” schools should have gone to the pipeline 04 players. |
+1 many kids go to college to get an education. I know several who turned down D1 and even power 5 overtures because they weren’t their college of choice or didn’t have the degree program of their choice. In 5-10 years they will be running roughshod in adult league over these other “college players “ who actually suck—been seeing that for the past 15-20 years and it will continue. |
| How many FCV players a) are still in the college team by the time they graduate and b) still at the same school by the time they graduate college? |
| This club better figure out a way to keep their influential parent invested and connected to the club. Because in a year I predict that gravy train drying up. Everyone knows that surrounding clubs have recommended their top players to get camp invites and they were black balled to make room for these sideline friends with benefits politics. This is no different than the aunt Becky situation minus the paying millions. Again the club benefited from this parental arrangement and took full advantage of it. Pretty easy to do for a TD to do when you consider the entire picture. So many have seen this yet nobody has formerly complained to us soccer over the years. So no, the 04’s had a lot of help since they were 13 building their soccer portfolio knowing full well how important it was for them to get that parent on their sideline to get more camp invites. So yeah that formula has proven to work for now. Once this 04 class graduates then maybe aunt Becky will move on and someone different will be hired to scout this area more equally. So many good players. It’s such a shame but there is still time, it will be a much harder road, but they will prevail. |
| Too much focus on going to D1. Very few are going to a top D1 school and even fewer of those that will go there and make any kind of an impact in soccer when they get there. And, that doesn't matter anyway. If the kids have the talent, they can promote themselves. They can go to ID camps, reach out to the coaches and make themselves known. If the talent is there, the coaches will take notice. Just getting your Director to promote them to find a spot is not best answer (especially if they don't have the right talent level -which happens too much). This is a great life skill to they will build along the way. I have 1 DD who played mid-level D1 soccer and 1 DD that played top tier D3 soccer. Honestly, my D3 daughter had a much better time in college and played a ton more. Most importantly, both have great educations and are doing well for themselves after soccer. This is what people need to focus on, not which Director is promoting their kid, etc. Soccer is blip in time and done for them after college anyway. |
FCV plays ECNL teams and everything is filmed even scrimmages. |
