#24 waitlist at Washington Latin (our first pick)
Latin seems like a better fit but wondering how likely we are to get in with that number. Thoughts?
Take the bird in the hand?

How is this possible? We had BASIS as first pick and are waitlisted. Thought first picks were matched first?? Anyone know?

PK3
#259 - Lamb, Kingsbury
#2 - Powell (IB)
#153 - DCB

Also WL at a few others past hope.

Matched at Dorothy Height, which we were impressed by at Open Houses for PK3, and is close. I'll keep a very very slim hope for Powell.

That is not how it works. Students with the highest lottery numbers are matched first. Watch the video on Myschooldc about how the matching works.

Youngest got into Capital City for PK3, other kiddo waitlisted #3 for 1st grade with sibling preference. What are the chances she gets in off that wait list?

WL #3 or below for Lafayette, Janney, Shepherd, Hearst, Murch.

Was not expecting this - currently at a charter.

Chances at Murch are zero. The current third grade class is big and my kids class has had two new students enroll in March.

That's the new school, right? Sounds like an interesting program!

Yes, they are only taking PK3 and 4 this year.

Where did you see that?

K has always been an expansion grade at MV with 40+ seats available for new students since pk3 and pk4 are combined classes that generally fill up with siblings.

Hmm so does that mean they have three or four kindergarten classes total? The other campus didn’t have any K spots expected unless kids left.

Pretty good, I think!

Unless lists move over 100 spaces, looks like we're staying at IB.

Same here

What is your waitlist number at both?

Basis will almost clear the waitlist each year, including last year. Latin moves 1 or 2 spots max.

You should consider sela. It’s an awesome school

No, this is from when you applied. My kids are one number apart.

The above is not correct. Last year, by October, BASIS offered a spot to 133 out of 218 on the waitlist and Latin offered 27 out of 436. You should look at https://public.tableau.com/profile/aaron2446#!/vizhome/MSDCSeatsandWaitlistOfferData/MSDCPublicDisplay for correct info.

PP you are responding to. Thanks! We are considering it. We’ve had a good experience at our IB this year, though, so mostly played the lottery in hopes of more in-person learning. Doubtful we’ll know anything by May. But we’ve heard lots of good things about Sela (beyond their commitment to get kids back) so not writing it off without thinking about it.

Good for you that your sense of humor is predominating! I wish I'd have a similar reaction. Mine tends to go towards how much I hate the lottery system and my feelings that the idea of winners and losers should not be present in public education. I'm working on being more like you as I don't think my reaction helps anything.
