Curious for opinions for pk3 waitlist... we are in the low 20s at Seaton and low 30s at Creative Minds- any hope of getting in at either?

1 Seaton Elementary School Waitlisted - #12
2 Cleveland Elementary School (Dual Language) - English Dominant Waitlisted - #14
3 Garrison Elementary School Waitlisted - #30
4 E.W. Stokes - Brookland (Spanish Language Program) Waitlisted - #49
5 Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS - J.F. Cook Campus Waitlisted - #51

Any guesses? We're IB for Langley which we're happy with so the stakes feel low to me, but I probably would prefer one of these schools if we got in.

Some chance at Seaton and Garrison. Unclear to me why you want Cleveland. Stokes no chance. Some chance at Cook.

Cleveland is extremely convenient, location-wise, and I liked the Spanish immersion element. Didn't put non-immersion on my list at all though because people I know there aren't very happy with it.

What's wrong with Cleveland? DH works just a few blocks away and we have a good waitlist #for the regular program. We currently are matched at a charter a few blocks southeast.

Everyone I know there dislikes it. Bad administration, bad test scores, bad middle school.

It’s a roller coaster. Some great teachers in dual language, some not so great. Nonexistent leadership. Toxic culture, with a few parents dominating the dialogue to suit their agendas. Things have broken down to a point that we’re planning to leave ASAP. School not on track to reopen in term 4. Beware. Seaton seems to be a much better community with a great leader, but I understand the desire for spanish.

We got in for PK3 last year (our in bounds) and toured it (obvs pre-COVID) and at a time when there were official tours and a lot of potential parents traipsing through, one of the PK3 classes was doing an activity where they ripped up pieces of paper and threw them in the air and jumped all around with no purpose. I have a little kid, I obviously get that not all activities have to be academic/make sense, but this was just a weird thing to showcase to a bunch of prospective parents. When we toured Garrison, the people giving the tour explained reading groups, circle time, this technology board they have, Seaton highlighted the great parent organization and an award they got for their healthy food program, etc. Cleveland just gave off a really depressing vibe. We are directly across the street so I can see people coming and going and there isn't much activity there now, so they don't seem open, which is concerning since it is a community with a lot of need.

3 Capitol Hill Montessori Match (enrollment pending)

Currently at Two Rivers Young -- HELP don't know what to do, I don't know anything about Cap Hill Montessori. Going to 4th-grade High achieving kid, late Oct birthday so he's usually the oldest in class.

I'd stay at Two Rivers

You can try to lottery out to Latin or Basis in 5th

Trying to interpret my son's waitlist for PreK

WL #12 West Elementary
WL #24 Lafayette
Enrolled Whittier Education Campus

Thinking Lafayette is a long shot but what about West? Have people had good experiences at Whittier?

Thanks for any info! This process is anxiety provoking

Lafayette is not happening. I'm not sure why West would be preferable to Whittier. Whittier is really good.

Yeah, Lafayette is our IB and maybe we will try again in K if we don't find the right fit with Whittier or West.

We are excited about Whittier but I am having a hard time finding people to talk to about it. Love any resources or advice. Thanks!

If Lafayette is your IB, you won't need to lottery for K.

Either way, feeling happy!

My kiddo went to Cleveland for prek3 and prek4 - both sets of teachers and assistants are phenomenal. If you have Ms. Dominguez next year, consider yourself very blessed! And bonus, the new playground is amazing!

I do not like the playground. It looks unsafe during school times. The principal is not strong. The teachers are amazing for the most part.
