Any shot DC will get off WL for PK4?

Definitely Garrison and maybe Two Rivers and Marie Reed English.

I disagree. I think Garrison and Two Rivers are good shots, but no possibility of Marie Reed (either English or DL)

Any guesses? We're IB for Langley which we're happy with so the stakes feel low to me, but I probably would prefer one of these schools if we got in.

Some chance at Seaton and Garrison. Unclear to me why you want Cleveland. Stokes no chance. Some chance at Cook.

Cleveland is extremely convenient, location-wise, and I liked the Spanish immersion element. Didn't put non-immersion on my list at all though because people I know there aren't very happy with it.

What's wrong with Cleveland? DH works just a few blocks away and we have a good waitlist #for the regular program. We currently are matched at a charter a few blocks southeast.

Everyone I know there dislikes it. Bad administration, bad test scores, bad middle school.

It’s a roller coaster. Some great teachers in dual language, some not so great. Nonexistent leadership. Toxic culture, with a few parents dominating the dialogue to suit their agendas. Things have broken down to a point that we’re planning to leave ASAP. School not on track to reopen in term 4. Beware. Seaton seems to be a much better community with a great leader, but I understand the desire for spanish.

We got in for PK3 last year (our in bounds) and toured it (obvs pre-COVID) and at a time when there were official tours and a lot of potential parents traipsing through, one of the PK3 classes was doing an activity where they ripped up pieces of paper and threw them in the air and jumped all around with no purpose. I have a little kid, I obviously get that not all activities have to be academic/make sense, but this was just a weird thing to showcase to a bunch of prospective parents. When we toured Garrison, the people giving the tour explained reading groups, circle time, this technology board they have, Seaton highlighted the great parent organization and an award they got for their healthy food program, etc. Cleveland just gave off a really depressing vibe. We are directly across the street so I can see people coming and going and there isn't much activity there now, so they don't seem open, which is concerning since it is a community with a lot of need.

I know exactly the parents your speaking of.

What do you mean by that? What are these parents demanding?

NP here, but if it were me, I would not lottery into Cleveland. Generally, with the surrounding schools (Seaton, Garrison, Langley), I think the best option is your IB because they are all pretty similar in terms of the education you will get, and the benefits of being at your IB stay at your IB. (Yes, Garrison has the nicest facilities, Seaton is the most established, and Langley has the most established socio-emotional program, and arguably a more promising middle school, but overall, I think it probably evens out). The exception, in my mind, is Cleveland, where it hasn't seemed to be able to unlock neighborhood support, and there is a lot of drama within the school and less clear leadership. All of these schools have some attrition, but there is more (and it's earlier) at Cleveland, for those reasons. If someone were IB for Cleveland, I could see giving it a shot, or trying for the other local DCPS schools (or charters), but I wouldn't lottery to Cleveland from the other three, even for the Spanish program, even for a slightly better commute. (Just my two cents of course)

100% agree. Even many people in the Spanish program at Cleveland are looking to leave, and the nearby schools have certain advantages exactly as PP said.

#16 WL for Tyler Dual Language English Dominant
Accepted - Capitol Hill Montessori

Any chance we get off the WL for Tyler or SWS for prek3?

I don't think much of MPDs detectives. They are unlikely to connect the dots. Plus, you seem like the kind of person who used a VPN and TOR to access DCUM, so there's no evidence to connect this back to you!

Take the bird in the hand?

Ditto. A couple of spots behind you at Latin. They went to #27 during the pandemic year. Otherwise they haven't gotten to #24. See you at Basis!

How is this possible? We had BASIS as first pick and are waitlisted. Thought first picks were matched first?? Anyone know?

Not. How. This. Works.

My School DC explains this 100 different ways. Go read the FAQs or watch one of the videos.

Unless lists move over 100 spaces, looks like we're staying at IB.

Same here

What is your waitlist number at both?

Basis will almost clear the waitlist each year, including last year. Latin moves 1 or 2 spots max.

Help me out here. What do people like you get from posting utter bullshit? Seriously, help me to understand. I bet someone could write a PhD dissertation on what kind of person feels the need to do this.

9,18,14,27,13. Those are the numbers of WL offers made for 5th grade in the past 5 years.

No longer true for Basis.

Either they're boosting the competing MSs, or they're disgruntled parents of former students?

3 Capitol Hill Montessori Match (enrollment pending)

Currently at Two Rivers Young -- HELP don't know what to do, I don't know anything about Cap Hill Montessori. Going to 4th-grade High achieving kid, late Oct birthday so he's usually the oldest in class.

Why are you trying to leave TRY? For CHML I would not make the trade.

Honestly not happy with TR approach to high learners, my experience has been that they are not investing in supporting students that are above grade level.

That is a concern at TR, one which has been exacerbated by Dr. K. She talks a lot about equity and diversity but what's happened (at least in my kid's class) is that the highest performing black kids have all left in the last 2 years because those parents are NOT ok with lowered expectations. Having said that, I would not in a million years go to CHML at this age. Montessori was designed for ECE. Doesn't work for upper elementary or beyond. Test scores and academics don't lie.
