Good. I’m not really looking for compensation for my part in virtual school (though wow has it been tough), but 3k would go a small way towards compensating me for having gone part time to make up for the loss of childcare that we normally get from in-person school. It’s not my full list wages, but it’s something.

Then OP should homeschool (that is not what she is doing), and move to California.

OP is not homeschooling.

Most people can't just pick up and move wherever they want on a whim.

How do I love this? Let me count the ways...

I cannot for the life of me imagine why any self-respecting adult would become a teacher in this day and age. The educational system is failing because of selfish, entitled parents who can’t/don’t want to deal with their own (and ONLY their own) children but expect a teacher to bow to their every demand and cater to their every whim (x30+) for a pittance, all while being continually mocked and insulted by the aforementioned entitled “parents”.

Maybe stop treating teachers like your personal hired help instead of the trained professionals that they are, and see if things start to improve.

Yeah, I sometimes wonder myself. I tried to do other jobs, but this is the only one I ever found real joy in. It is harder to summon it up through DL, but I still manage some glimmers. I just wish this community would stop fighting each other and work stuff out. This isn’t healthy - all this back and forth blaming. It certainly doesn’t help the kids. Stop listening to the extremists like FEA lady and Dr. Gloria (i am sorry but that lady’s policy is and has always been “Do the least amount of work possible.”). Persuade the board NICELY to your point of view. Stop acting so unhinged.

Thanks for saying that, BTW. It is nice that you would defend a teacher.

When they act like professionals, we will treat them as such. Every year all they want is to do less work for more money and more days off. When I was a kid I can remember going entire school years without having a sub once the entire year. Prior to Covid, my kids had subs all.the.time. They get way more snow days now than we did back then too. Feedback is non-existent.

Well, the normal tax credit is $2,000, so this is an extra $1,000. The stimulus also had $500 or $600 per a kid each, right? And they are talking about another?

I'm pretty sure they were still using substitutes in the '80s. Just because you maybe never had one doesn't mean they weren't being used.

I don't think we had 20 snow days built in the to the calendar when we were kids.

How is this the teacher’s fault? They don’t make the calendar.
